• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I wouldn't really put this as substance abuse because I only did it once (and I didn't know where else to put it), but I have a question.

I was with some friends and they were smoking some pot. They told me to have some, but I didn't really want to. After a while I finally gave into them buggin me about it and I tried some. Now that I look back on it I really wish I wouldn't have. I don't know why, but I keep thinking that because I did that, that I am going to go to hell. I am really ashamed of doing it though and won't do it again. I guess you could say that I am in fear of dying because I think that because of this and watching pornography I will go to hell.

What do you guys think about it?

Well we all make these mistakes and we all cause pain in our own lives. But we have Jesus who has went to the Cross to save us from our Sin. He died so we can have forgiveness, if you are sincere and ask for forgiveness, God will grant it to you. Grow from this and read His Word for clarity and help.

Many of us have traversed this very same path, myself included, what i suggest is you pray to God to help you with your struggles. Ask him to direct you to people who can be a rock for you and help you with the Christian walk. The path of substance abuse is not a good one and its just so easy to become a slave to it. You need to steer clear of it otherwise i can say with a fair amount of certainty you will become an addict and have a much harder time getting back to Life!

please don't feel guilty bout smoking pot: at least not in a spiritual sense.
Cannabis is NOT evil: It is illegal. Smoking pot once isn't going to make God angry. It just is not.
You are feeling guilty but it is guilt that you shouldn't even burden.
I Corinthians 6:13: "Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial".

I don't think that smoking pot once is going to have a profound affect on your soul. I don't even think smoking pot every DAY would have a profound affect on your soul but what DOES matter is that you NEVER LOSE yourself OR your love of God because of it: THIS is when it becomes a sin (and even then, not really a sin but a path towards it). Don't let pot chase you away from God. And don't let your misplaced guilt chase you away from God.
He loves you and a couple puffs ain't going to change his mind.
