So. According to Christians, the Bible predicted a lot of the future. So all of the prophecies are 100% true according to them. My father talks about it and always tells me about it. So for all of the Christians, tell me a prophecy in the Bible that happened EXACTLY how the book said it would. I would like to know. :)

EDIT: Okay then... So I will prefer that if you are going to give me a prophecy, just tell me the verse, where it is found, and what it supposed to have done.

Matthew 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

If you like to see more, then read the whole chapter of Matthew 24.

Have you never asked your father this same question?

More than that, I was saying that the two are not incompatible. Jesus is a "name" in one sense, while Immanuel was a title, not a given name. There is no conflict in saying that he was given the name Jesus and was called Immanuel, no matter who was doing the "calling." ;)

"And she shall call his name Immanuel" is just as logical as saying that Bill is the wonder child or Tom is the miracle baby. And notice that in Isaiah and Matthew, it says "shall call his name..." That's not the way we'd say it. We'd say "named him" or "gave him the name Jesus."

It just occurred to me that we are probably spending more time arguing about Jesus' name than we are praying to Him.

The devil must be laughing. He is probably nudging a colleague in hell saying, "Gee, that forum thing was a really good idea!"

I'm checking out. Very interesting discussion, though.

"Do you not see all these things? I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down." Matt. 24:2 Jesus prophesied this in 32A.D. and in 70 A.D. Jerusalem was destroyed and the Temple was as well, not one stone left on another!
Nebuchadnezzar's dream that Daniel interpreted is well know. Daniel is filled with prophecies that were fulfilled -- read all of it. The last chapter pertains to what will come soon, then it will slap you in the face when it starts to happens. It also correlates to the scenario in Revelation concerning the end times.

Psalm 22 was written by King David about 1000 B.C. It describes in detail Jesus' suffering on the cross! Jesus was said to have fulfilled hundreds of prophecies. A probability of fulfilling just eight of his prophecies results in one chance in one followed by 23 zeros. Simply, the probability or anyone fulfilling all those prophecies other than Jesus is impossible.

Rather than to get into Genesis and Exodus which are filled with fulfilled prophecies, I'll jump to current times,
the re-gathering of the Jews back to Israel.
"but - As the Lord lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the land of the north and from all the countries where He had banished them. For I will restore them to their won land which I gave to their fathers." Jer.16:15
"Say to them , thus says the Lord GOD, -Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land;" Ezek.37:21
After more than 1800 years, they came back home. The Jewish nation became a state in 1948 and they recaptured Jerusalem in 1967.

In this generation, many prophecies not yet fulfilled will come to pass.
Christ will return in what is called the End Times/ Great Tribulation Period/ Judgment Day. See these verses for the Second Coming of Christ: Heb. 9:28, Acts 1:11; 1 Cor.11:26; Rev. 1:7; Matthew 24:29, 30, 34, 35; 1Thes. 4:16, 17;
Dan. 12:1, 8, 9; Isaiah 1:28, 13:9-13, 33:14, 34:8-11, 66:15, 16; Zech. 12:3, 9, 14:2-4, 12; Psalm 11:6; Joel 2:1; 2Peter 3:7, 8, 10; and of course Revelation chapters 6-18

Looks like you have a lot of studying to do. There have been many atheists who when honestly searched the scriptures to seek the truth about Jesus, found Him and were transformed into believers. You must come to him like a child in humility and put aside your preconceived notions -- otherwise, you remain blind.

Thank you for the quotes. Now, I have not been able to find any notions of a man named Jesus to have existed. So, if you could, could you find me proof that there was a man named Jesus that is real and not in the Bible? Also, I know you are trying to convince me to believe in Jesus, but please do not insult me by calling me blind.

Hi Isaiah is one of the most powerful prophecies. It speaks of the coming of one to pay for sins, Jesus.

Isa 53:3-12 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Thank you for the quotes. Now, I have not been able to find any notions of a man named Jesus to have existed. Also, I know you are trying to convince me to believe in Jesus, but please do not insult me by calling me blind.
Jesus life and effect on the world is a fact of history. If you are in denial that He even existed then you have a lot of problems. Christians who receive Jesus are transformed. America was born a Christian nation and we became the greatest nation in history. If you destroyed every bible on the planet, you would find every verse spread out amongst millions of books written about Him. His love has permeated the heart of man, has given light and understanding to the righteous way to live. Apart from Him is darkness. You may not believe you are in darkness, but it will creep up on you all of a sudden and you will have no one to turn to.
Our purpose in life is to be reconciled to God through Jesus. If you do not turn to God before you die, the you will have forfeited your soul, which you probably don't think exists. What is the meaning or purpose of your life if you go through all these motions as you grow, learn and experience life if at the end, you lose it all? To pass it on? Whoever you pass it on to loses it as well. Then if all we have is this life, we are no better than animals, just smarter and more able.
Read "A Case For Christ" or "A Case For Faith" both written by an award winning journalist who was an atheist, Lee Strobel.
He sought out to disprove Jesus and the myth behind his resurrection. Having the skill of a lawyer, he set out and honestly searched to find the truth, putting aside his misconceptions and doubts and found it. The is evidence of Jesus everywhere. If He never existed, you would be surprised at what this world would look like. Probably something like Haiti looked before the earthquake.

Secondly, God did not give humans morals. That is a thing that humans learn through there life. The purpose to life is not to have a relationship with "God" (I am using quotations as to note that this is YOUR god, not mine). The purpose is to live, gain knowledge of the world, create a legacy that you can smile on, then pass it down. Now, I never said I was an Atheist. My beliefs are that when we die, we go into an eternal slumber. Whether you dream in this sleep is not certain, but it is eternal. I do not believe in sin. I do not believe in a "god" that condemns and judges people. I do not believe in Satan. I believe in a creator and that everyone has free will. What type of god tempts their own creation with something that can ruin them? It's like if I created my own being that would die if it touched the water, put a pool of pure H20 next to it, and told it not to jump in. Of course, the beings with a curious nature, would jump in and die. That's the EXACT same thing God did with humans. And OH YES, GOD MADE MANKIND NICE, THAT IS WHY THEY CONDEM GAYS WHEN THE BIBLE SAID TO NOT EAT PORK OR SHELLFISH OR NOT TO BREED TWO TYPES OF ANIMALS OR WEAR TWO FABRIC MATERIAL. IT IS AMAZING HOW THE BIBLE SAID THAT WOMAN IS LESSER THAN MAN. It is amazing despite all that, in MATTHEW 7:1, it said "Judge not, that ye be judged."
"Then if all we have is this life, we are no better than animals, just smarter and more able." Well no duh, Sherlock! We are all just smarter animals! If that is wrong, then why is our genome so close to other animals and not completely unique?
"The is evidence of Jesus everywhere." Like what?! Where? All I see is products of evolution and amazing minds!
"If He never existed, you would be surprised at what this world would look like." Um... Pretty sure it would be the same because JESUS NEVER EXISTED IF YOU CAN'T PROVE IT!

Matthew 24:2 But he answered and said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Okay, here it says that it will be destroyed. It said nothing about how or when so it is very vague to where anyone can say "Oh! It is no longer here! It must be destroyed!" The temple could easily have been destroyed by nature. It is hardly convincing of "Jesus".

Daniel 2:31 - Daniel 2:45
Okay, while it is "prophesized", it does not DIRECTLY say which kingdoms came to power. In order for me to believe, I wish not to rely on interpretations of vague, made up, over translated stories that change with every translation, but I wish to see straight evidence about this.

Jesus did not exist to the extent of my knowledge! Give me proof, then I will accept this "prophecy". Also, it only mentions a man who will save people from sin. Jesus comes in at the New Testament. So yeah... It's like if I said 100 years ago "One day we will have a black president of USA." While Barack did become President, I could refer to ANY black president in the future.

Okay, do you not think that they looked at that prophecy and thought "Oh gee wilikers! If this prophecy doesn't come true then we will all look like idiots!" and worked together to make it happen? Also, translations get lost with the years and for all we know, it could almost never had said that. And before you say "Ha! Those are the reasons? You must obviously have lost!" I didn't lose yet, because I am asking for clear cut information and not vague words.

In this generation, many prophecies not yet fulfilled will come to pass.
Christ will return in what is called the End Times/ Great Tribulation Period/ Judgment Day. See these verses for the Second Coming of Christ: Heb. 9:28, Acts 1:11; 1 Cor.11:26; Rev. 1:7; Matthew 24:29, 30, 34, 35; 1Thes. 4:16, 17;
Dan. 12:1, 8, 9; Isaiah 1:28, 13:9-13, 33:14, 34:8-11, 66:15, 16; Zech. 12:3, 9, 14:2-4, 12; Psalm 11:6; Joel 2:1; 2Peter 3:7, 8, 10; and of course Revelation chapters 6-18

*YAWN* Okay, no more Jesus Christ prophecies. I swear I am going to write a book about when Unicorns and Pegasus become real, wait until the day that scientists genetically created those animals then claim "Oh! The prophecies came true!" if this is the stuff you are giving me...

Looks like you have a lot of studying to do. There have been many atheists who when honestly searched the scriptures to seek the truth about Jesus, found Him and were transformed into believers. You must come to him like a child in humility and put aside your preconceived notions -- otherwise, you remain blind.

Wow... And I converted many times from Christian to Atheist to Wicca to others. Jeez... Besides there were Christians that looked for truth in the Bible and became Atheist. Secondly, miracles DO NOT happen. No matter how hard we pray, why does God frown upon the thousands of children who are sick, abused, starving, ect. and do nothing? In my honesty, Heaven is just a silly reward system for following a cult book, Hell is a threat used to terrorize people in Christianity, and God is an imaginary friend who you think of just to feel better. And if I want to convert, I will never repent my sins. According to the basics, in Christianity, all you have to do is believe in God and Jesus and then go to heaven. And no, I am not blind, I am living just fine with out some "God".

I asked for you to give me proof that Jesus Christ existed on THIS Earth that was not in the Bible.

Scholars generally consider Tacitus's reference to the execution of Jesus by Pontius Pilate to be both authentic, and of historical value as an independent Roman source. Eddy and Boyd state that it is now "firmly established" that Tacitus provides a non-Christian confirmation of the crucifixion of Jesus.

Jesus and His Contemporaries: Comparative Studies by Craig A. Evans 2001 ISBN 0-391-04118-5 page 42
Mercer dictionary of the Bible by Watson E. Mills, Roger Aubrey Bullard 2001 ISBN 0-86554-373-9 page 343
Pontius Pilate in History and Interpretation by Helen K. Bond 2004 ISBN 0-521-61620-4 page xi

If he really did existed, then shouldn't all Christians have some sort of proof to back up their claims?

Not necessarily. One can be a Christian in the sense that they are a follower of Jesus Christ without having proof of His existence. Of course I get your point. I am just being technical.

Of course those you are speaking with here, including myself, do have evidence that Jesus existed.

Secondly, God did not give humans morals. That is a thing that humans learn through there life.

It is true that no one is born knowing right from wrong, good from evil and that we learn this things as we grow older and become aware of the meaning of such concepts.

However, to argue that this means that God does not give us morals is a non-sequitur. In other words, the conclusion does not follow from the premises.

The purpose to life is not to have a relationship with "God".

And your reasons for saying this are?

The purpose is to live, gain knowledge of the world, create a legacy that you can smile on, then pass it down.

Is that all our purpose amounts to?

Or is there more?

Now, I never said I was an Atheist. My beliefs are that when we die, we go into an eternal slumber. Whether you dream in this sleep is not certain, but it is eternal. I do not believe in sin. I do not believe in a "god" that condemns and judges people. I do not believe in Satan.

I am sure you have reasons and arguments and evidence to support all of this you just said. If so, what are they?

I believe in a creator and that everyone has free will.

That's a start.

What type of god tempts their own creation with something that can ruin them?

You tell me.

It certainly is not the God I worship.

It's like if I created my own being that would die if it touched the water, put a pool of pure H20 next to it, and told it not to jump in. Of course, the beings with a curious nature, would jump in and die. That's the EXACT same thing God did with humans.

Why do you think your scenario and the Biblical account of creation is analogous?

And OH YES, GOD MADE MANKIND NICE, THAT IS WHY THEY CONDEM GAYS

Mankind condemns gays?

Why do you say this?

WHEN THE BIBLE SAID TO NOT EAT PORK OR SHELLFISH OR NOT TO BREED TWO TYPES OF ANIMALS OR WEAR TWO FABRIC MATERIAL.

There were certain ceremonial and dietary laws given to the Israelites during the period in which they were living in a theocratic society this is true.

What is your point?

IT IS AMAZING HOW THE BIBLE SAID THAT WOMAN IS LESSER THAN MAN.

Where at in the Bible is this found? What book, chapter, and verse if you do not mind.

It is amazing despite all that, in MATTHEW 7:1, it said "Judge not, that ye be judged."

Why is it amazing that Jesus would say that?

"Then if all we have is this life, we are no better than animals, just smarter and more able." Well no duh, Sherlock! We are all just smarter animals! If that is wrong, then why is our genome so close to other animals and not completely unique?

Why do you think that we would need a completely unique genome structure from animals in order be be able to argue that we are better than the animals?

"The is evidence of Jesus everywhere." Like what?! Where? All I see is products of evolution and amazing minds!

You see amazing minds? How do you see these minds?

"If He never existed, you would be surprised at what this world would look like." Um... Pretty sure it would be the same because JESUS NEVER EXISTED IF YOU CAN'T PROVE IT!

This last piece is demonstrably false. Whether or not a person exists is totally independent of whether or not their existence can be proven.

People do not pop into being the moment someone discovers some proof of their existence. Up until recently, several remote tribes living in the Amazon have gone undetected by people outside of their tribe. These people have existed for centuries. They did not just pop into being when discoverers happened upon their villages!

Okay, I can see what you mean, but as I looked at the information, it was hard for me to decipher. So for a younger woman, could you help interpret the resources? I may be smart, but I haven't read older texts for quite a while.

That is true. Even if I or others do not believe in such proof.

It is true that no one is born knowing right from wrong, good from evil and that we learn this things as we grow older and become aware of the meaning of such concepts.

However, to argue that this means that God does not give us morals is a non-sequitur. In other words, the conclusion does not follow from the premises.

I am confused, what do you mean?

And your reasons for saying this are?

Because I do not believe in God?

Is that all our purpose amounts to?

Or is there more?

Eh.... That is about it for me. I do not understand our purpose on this world, but there is no one answer.

I am sure you have reasons and arguments and evidence to support all of this you just said. If so, what are they?

I view all religions the same because I was raised around so many of them. So in my mind, I find what makes sense to me. It makes sense for creation, but not so much as condemning people for their own choices.

Why do you think your scenario and the Biblical account of creation is analogous?

Because that is exactly how I view the Bible's story of creation and why we have sin.

Mankind condemns gays?

Why do you say this?

It's not so much as mankind as it is Christians that condemn gays. I say mankind because the bigotry is present in quite a few groups despite religion.

There were certain ceremonial and dietary laws given to the Israelites during the period in which they were living in a theocratic society this is true.

What is your point?

To show how Christians will show off one feature of their religion like "Believe Jesus or go to Hell!" Or in most cases that I see "God hates homosexuals!" while not also stating that they are supposed to reject those other rules and break those laws while enforcing gays are not equal.

Where at in the Bible is this found? What book, chapter, and verse if you do not mind.

Timothy 2:11 to Timothy 2:13 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

Why is it amazing that Jesus would say that?

Because I find it funny that Christians will condemn you for just about anything when Jesus said to not judge others because you will be judged the same way.

Why do you think that we would need a completely unique genome structure from animals in order be be able to argue that we are better than the animals?

Just saying that if God made humans more special than animals, then why must we have ties with them?

You see amazing minds? How do you see these minds?

Gee! I should have rephrased that!
"The is evidence of Jesus everywhere." Like what?! Where? All I see is products of evolution and PRODUCTS OF amazing minds!

Okay, that is true! But if I am going to believe that something is true, I might want to know that they actually exist!
