I have a question about, when to read the Bible.

Does it matter what time you read the Bible as long as you read it? I mean, like for example, you get up and you go straight to breakfast and then get on the computer for a while, and then get off and go read the Bible, is this ok? Or, should I be reading the Bible right when I wake up? Then eat Breakfast and get on the computer? I've been struggling with this question for a long time and I thought I might give the forums a try and hope they could help me with this decision. I'm worried that I wouldn't be a good Christian like I say Iam if I'm not reading the Bible fist, but it doesn't seem to fit me becuase when I read the Bible first thing, I feel like I'm forcing myself or I'm pushing myself too much. I like it to come naturually, and I think that's how God would want it, becuase without that, I wouldn't have finished reading the whole book of Genesis. If I was to force myself a differant way, becuase someone told me it was bad to read the Bible whenever, that I have to read it first thing, I was like , this person is just being religiouse, I took their advice and it doesn't work for me, but I'm not sure if she's right or am I being selfish? Thanks for the advice if any.

Please note that I mean there are some religiouse christians out there who think that their way is the only way that's right and other Christians are wrong, I'm not saying everyone is like that, but there are some Christians who do think that. This Christian happend to be on Free Open Diary saying she dissagreed with me and practically exploited me without mentioning my name of course, but I knew she was talking about me, in her diary, cuase I made her mad cuase, I said what Ibelieved in my diary, she read it and now she's mad at me. But that wasn't my intention, those were my notes to self, and they were open notes, cuase I hoped to have helped others , but no one had to take my advice. I was just expressing what I believed when she said that. But if you really do think that she's right and not being religiouse, please help me to understand, that's what I'm asking for, thanks.

There's no correct time to read the Bible. It's whatever works for you. Young mothers will tell you that they read it in the bathroom with the door locked - the only time they can be alone. I personally fix my coffee and sit down for an hour, but I'm retired and can do this without waking up at 5 a.m. I find if I read it any later, I'm too tired to think about it. Not only that, but I've used the Bible on DVD to read to me and just let the word wash over me. That's really wonderful.

The best thing to do is to do whatever you do consistently. While it might not seem "natural", you are best off to just persevere and do it. It's like any other good habit - if you don't do it reliably, then it's easier not to do it and who would like that best? Right - the enemy of your soul. So set up a time to read every day! Don't worry if you miss but try not to miss too often. Carry a pocket Bible in your jacket for when you are kept waiting! Also, set time to study what you've read and to think about what you've read. And pray before reading that the Holy Spirit teaches what He wants you to learn!

Best to you - now get to work! :D

The reason that many Christians like to read the Bible as the very first thing they do when they wake up, is because they feel that it's the best way to start out their day and it is usually the most distraction-free and obligation-free part of the day. Which is actually a pretty good reason. But that's not necessarily the best time for everyone. Set up a time that you are comfortable with. If you find that it works and that you are able to focus, then there's no need to change anything.

MY SISTER,

God, of course, does not care WHEN you read His Word--just so it gets read.

The best thing to do is to experiment and figure out when the best time is for you--when you have time to yourself, peace and quiet, and are mentally alert so as to be able to comprehend and retain what you read.

Once you have found YOUR ideal time--STICK TO IT NO MATTER WHAT. Set the time off from everything else as being sacred to the Lord, and read everyday without fail in the time slot you have carved out for yourself.

This takes self-discipline because if you start cheating with God's Time, eventually your reading will trail off and disappear. Stick to it, however, and God will bless you abundantly with the fruits of your labor!

MAY YOU BE BLESSED!

A BOND-SLAVE OF CHRIST,

I agree with the other posts, it doesn't matter when you read the Word, just read it.

If you miss a day or two, God will forgive you, and you have not committed mortal sin. But remember, a war cannot be won with our weapons, and ours is the most powerful Sword of all...without it, you will be open to all kinds of assaults.

Be sure to mark verses that God speaks to you through, and make it your own. A Bible is just a book, until we read it, and apply it's teaching.

I believe it doesn't matter when you read it, but it'd be a good idea to start your day off with prayer and Bible time, because then you are starting your day off with a good attitude. So, although it doesn't matter, you know, it's not a sin to wait until later, but it's a better idea to start your day off right. ;)

I used to read at night but found the cares of the day were too much of a distraction and I wasn't getting much out of it. So I switched my devotional time to first thing in the morning, before anything else is underway, and while my mind is still clear. It helps to make it an "appointment with God" that can't be broken, that way when I'm praying/reading people know not to bother me till I'm done. I try not to let anything distract me, though it's hard because Satan will use any means to interrupt!

I dont think God cares when you sit and read the Bible. Now as one poster said most young mom's read in the bathroom, for me I should read during nap times..That gives me the slot to sit and read with out my son yelling and wanting food or needing some thing.. For I am a new mother and yea its hard.. I agree we should do our best to sit and read the Word for it is Gods love letter to us and instructions to handle every part of life.. Just relax and read and stick to a certain time.. Hope this helps.. God bless..
