  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a problem!!!

I like gospel group and all but the people in it are so maen besides my friends. It fells like every one get lot of solos that are good solos but just not me. My solos are eltheir to high in pich or to low in pich. I feel that every one claps louder for the other soloest than for me even though they say they liked it I don't truly beleive them I feel that I am not good enough for the other people. Singing should be something you do to honour God, and to have fun. If you're doing it just to be told you are good at singing, and to show off your voice, that's not the right reason to be doing it. It's great that you enjoy singing, and that other people like listening to you sing.

If you're not enjoying the gospel group anymore, then perhaps it would be good to find another place to sing. If you want to stick with it, try to focus on singing your best rather than comparing yourself to others. Try not to worry who gets the best solos, who the audience claps for the loudest, etc. That's not what it should be about... it should be just for fun!

The first part of you post is, by far, the best. "Honour God"!!! If petty spats are flaring up, then the question must be are the members more concerned with praise, or showing off?

I am not singing because I want attention I am singing because I love to sing. I am just concerned that no one takes me seriously and I want to be treated like every one else. I just want people to listen to me when I am singing in practic. But instead evryone talks to there buddies or yells or gets in slaping fights of does homework. I listen to everyone else when they sing i feel like they sould treat me the way I treat them.

Hey, I'm new here and I saw your post. I have had similar experiences like this. Maybe I can offer some useful advice also. I used to sing in a group called the African American Choral Ensemble (AACE). It was not strictly for African Americans and though we only sang Gospel Music and Hymns it was not strictly Christian. I won't blame anyone who wasn't a proclaimed Christian in the group for what happened but I know that these days professing being a Christian while not living for Jesus is a fad. A lot of people want to be associated with "spiritual" groups hoping that it will get them into heaven and give them favor with men while on earth. I'm not accusing any of those in my group of this but when people join for those reasons, there usually is no thought of being transformed by the renewing of their mind or conforming to Christ and so they bring, for lack of a better word, "outside" ordeals to the group and people end up compromising. You should decide if the group is still what it was when you joined and if their goal is the same.
Second, and I'm gonna try to make this short, I've always had a problem with being behind other people. I know that sounds petty but I always wondered why God wouldn't just let me shine just once in front of others. Whenever I would get a solo my voice would be hoarse and would crack or something like that and so people could never hear me to the best of my ability. Over time I've learned that God reserves us for particular seasons. It just wasn't my time then. He has prepared me and one day when I am ready He will unveil me to the world. He will do the same to you. My voice gets hoarse really easily if I have to sing too loud for too long but by doing it over and over my voice gets stronger. Eventually it will be where God needs it to be. Stay humble and know that after everybody else has had their chance you will amaze those around you. And be sure to celebrate with those whose time is now. Even though it may hurt sometimes, when it's your turn they will be there cheering you on for your unique way of praising God that you got by knowing Him personally. Hope that helps.
