  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I feel sick!!

I cried when I saw that. He was about the same age as my husband. I think being a newly-wed has made me incredibly emotional!!!

I prayed some of the Trisagion for the Dead for him. How beautiful that our prayers can still help him.

Umut,

I'm going to tell you this ....I know it probably won't help but here it is:

With all the recent stuff about Americans/Brits torturing them and now this, it only proves one thing: Man has never "evolved". He has not gotten "better". He is only more of what he already is: barbaric and in need of a Saviour. It only proves our Enemy's presence in the world.

We must take hope in our Lord: O Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and save us!!!

The world will not get better. it will get WORSE and it will spin faster and faster out control until our Lord comes again.

Remember the last line of the Creed: "....we look for the resurrection of the dead AND THE LIFE OF THE AGE TO COME." This means we must be hopeful for our Lord's return and His justice and His perfect wisdom....Chyristians are HOPEFUL, in spite of the world.

*shocked*

They actually put that kind of stuff on the news in your countries. Wow. We heard it happen and saw a picture of the guy, but the actual event? Sheesh, I'm glad our newsmedia (and general pagen public) hasn't got that bloodthirsty yet. Another proof for Suzannahs point that mankind hasn't improved on our own.

:( Truly depressing for his family. I do hope he was a christian, of any denomination that has at least the basic gospel. At least then his family will have the comfort that he'll be with (or is heading to..I'm not 100% sure of the orthodox beliefs on this) the Father.

I can't even imagine what it must be like for his family to either see that on t.v. or just even knowing that it's being shown. Our news media is way out of line, just as is our media in general.

:sigh:

If he was your son or brother or best friend, you might not be so cavalier about it. There are people out there right now that are suffering tremendously over the loss of this man that they loved so dearly. The old "he asked for it" (ie, "blame the victim") mentality, is pretty cold.

Whether or not the war is a "bore" or not does not change the fact that this man was created in our Lord's image and had the image and likeness of God in him and that each act of murder is therefore, on some level, an act of deicide.

You may be sick of the overwhelming media coverage of the war, but don't let that blind you to the fact that each individual who dies is much, much more than a number, but somebody's husband, somebody's wife, somebody's child, someone's sibling, somebody's dearest and closest friend. It's much more than just an opportunity for you to yawn and change the channel.

You couldn't be more right! The thing is I saw the video from the internet; and I did not plan on seeing such a video, I'll explain in a second... However, I heard that they showed the guys getting ready to cut his head off, (please forgive me for the image! I'm so sorry, it's disturbing to me as well... bear with me here...) and they stopped the video when the actual thing happened.

It's amazing how one can act when one is so obsessed with a belief system. What kind of a man yells God is Great and begins cutting a head off!

These images I saw were terrific. I freaked out, my brain stopped, I panicked, I got sick, emotionally disturbed, Andreas calmed me down, but it was too, too much. The worst part!!??!?!?!? My mom was standing there when it happened.

My friend sent it to me and said "Just watch it..." because I had asked "What is it?"

I trusted him, so I watched it.

Guess what happened, my mom 100% freaked out... you can picture what happened..

"I told you to stop getting involved in religion, why are you watching this, worry about your studies, this and that, blah blah blah..."

anyways, I gotta go; I'm in class, I'll write more about this when Ig et home.

Have no doubt, I am still a believer.

Why did your mom say, "I told you to stop getting involved in religion?" Does she think you are going fundamentalist muslim?

She doesn't think I'm going to be a fundamentalist muslim, but she probably thinks that I'm going to get brainwashed with this stuff and finally breakdown or something...

I talked to three of my teachers today about this, and they all had logical responses. I was in shock of talking about the incident, and I didn't really grip onto every word they said while they were explaining the issue from a political aspect, and describing to me "what had happened..."

Apparently, muslims kill infadels, which apparently means: non-believers...

does it ever strike these filthbag individuals who did this: that if they were born in Greece, they would be Orthodox Christians, and defend Christianity. Why do they feel the need to defend Islam when someone questions their faith? My friend was asking me about the Trinity, silly questions such as: "Why is Jesus praying to God? Isn't HE God himself? I don't get it"... I explain it to them including the WATER VAPOR ICE analogy, and he says: No, but there is only ONE god...

I said: says who?
He said: says the Qur'an
I said: Why do you believe in the Qur'an?
He said: Because it's my religion...
I said: You ever wonder why I converted?
He said: I don't know...
I said: Maybe you feel the need to defend the Qur'an and the Muslim faith because you were born in Bangladesh, maybe you would be defending Christianity and explaining to another muslim the idea of the Trinity if you were born in Greece, you ever think about that? If you think the Qur'an says something, and therefore it is correct, there are a lot of pagan religions out there that encourage us to worship grass (which is kind of insulting, but, comeon... they're pagans..), does that mean they're right?

He muttered for a while...

So you see how ignorant and uneducated some people can be. TO take it as far as... even thinking about it is making me throw up... cutting someone's head off yelling ALLAH AKBAR ALLAH AKBAR ALLAH AKBAR

you feel like losing control and punching these people in the face for being so stupid! but then if i were to hurt another human being because that human being hurt another, i'd be exactly like the human being i'm hurting; i'd be hurting someone... which is totally wrong...

however, if i were to ever show these people LOVE like jesus said we should, i could never find it in my heart to show a demented and twisted man love...

here you have a maniac yelling GOd is Great and butchering someone... and i can't just show these people love. if i were the spirit of the slaughtered man, i could never in the afterlife put my hand on his head and say: I pardon you... it would be impossible for me...

in fact, i'd bash his head open!

in other news, summer is coming! beautiful days starting!

And yet, Umut, we will not be forgiven unless we forgive. But it isn't easy.

While I was watching "The Passion of the Christ" I felt the way St. Peter did - I understood why he wanted to cut someone's ear off. And yet, there was Jesus, forgiving His very own enemies, and healing that ear. He died not only for you and me, but also for the same people who cursed Him, spit on Him, beat Him, nailed His hands and feet to wooden crossbeams, and gambled for His clothing while He died.

That is our goal; that is theosis, to love and forgive as God loves and forgives. I'm not there yet, either. But we can both keep our eyes on the target. Let's pray for each other, and for our enemies. They are created in God's image, too.
