Hey OP, Adore Jazz, first noticed it in my 20s travelling Tokyo, in cafes, Ramen bars, and diners (imitating Americana I suppose), but 'Jazz' as a descriptor is actually pretty broad... Miles Davis for example hated being called a 'jazz musician' since he was radical and broke the genre at the time, unlike the rest. Nat King Cole too iirc. Jazz can be super expressive I think, like Nina Simone, but the genre tends to have sweeping existentialist/atheist themes, a sense of the randomness of life, purposelessness, sporadic changes, pointlessness, drifting, etc, like 60-80s French films that end with without a meaningful 'The End' conclusion, or happy ending. Not all, but most. It leaves you entertained but wondering. As believers however, Scripture teaches the contrary, to be certain in life, objective, purposeful, etc. "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." (James 4) Bible Gateway passage: James 4 - King James Version. Epitomised when the Lord said, "Let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil" (Mt. 5:37)

Anyhow, Take Five, Dave Brubeck is a classic Jazz standard... Immediately recognisable, warm, charming, and alluring... Turn the volume up! :)

One of my go to playlists on cool overcast days, like today in Sydney. Cliche smooth Jazz instrumental music. Reminds me of times past, Christmas evenings in the CBD, when department stores hire pianists and bands in the lobby, and window displays are fully decorated, or 90s films featuring New York City and snow falling. lol Warms you from the inside :)
