  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't want to live anymore.

yes, there is but if at the expense of someone's spiritual health it isn't worth it. your prayers will work whether he's here or not, and feelings that he can't live up to what God is asking of him tells me he doesn't need to constantly read things about Catholic teaching, esp. when it's laid out one dimenionally, it can come off as legalistic. What's good for some, might not be good for others.

This is all based on personal assumptions. You have no idea what the trouble is or what the despair is about but assume to and attribute it to Catholic teaching which is utterly ridiculous. Do us all a favor and stick to lifting up our brother rather than dragging this thread into your own spin ok? Its not helping!

Rhamiel brother, have you read the Imitation of Christ? and by all means have Mercy on yourself and please never doubt Gods Divine Mercy on you.

JoabAnias, thank you so much for your kind words, but Miss.Shelby is only trying to help, what she said she said out of love and concern for me. Please do not fight, both of you are awsome cats.
I called around today looking for proffesional help, I talked to some friends who have been to counciling and I asked my priest if he knew any good catholic shrinks down here (anyone use the term "shrink" anymore? blah I hang out with old people so I have old timey talk)

Rhamiel, the first thing you have to do is get off line.

This atmosphere, especially in OBOB is poison. Poison. I can tell you've set the bar way too high and now you're beating yourself up because you can't live up to it. I believe in large part that has to do with what you read in here.

None of us can live up to it. Stop beating yourself up, get off line and go see a doctor.
thank you for your advise, but I was like this looooong before OBOB, only been on this site for 2 years, been having ups and downs like this for atleast 6 or 7 years
UKOK
Certainly that may be the case, but i would like to think it isn't all bad here and i would also like this fine Rhamiel to know that actually, him being a part of OBOB makes it a better place!

That isn't intending pressure to be put on him to remain, but i think Rhamiel needs to know that his posts are often very encouraging to others and informative and helpful.
thank you very much, that is very kind of you to say that

Do us all a favor
This isn't about YOU or 'all' anyone, it' about Rhamiel
and I hardly see how telling him to get away from the computer and see a doctor is bad advice. I said it’s permissiable and helpful for some people to be here, not others. if you want to take that personally ask yourself why.

Rhamiel, I am only trying to help you thanks for realizing that. You can pm me if you need anything.

this might be a dunce question but is there any free counseling available through a priest (not asking if the priest himself is the counselor)? I can't pay for counseling, that's one of the reasons I don't pursue it right now

sure, ask your priest, I dunno what he will say, I have heard other people get counciling through a priest, don't worry LadyBug none of your questions are "dunce" questions, you are not from a catholic family so you did not grow up learning the same things, I find that your questions help everyone better understand the faith

Rhamiel, on two separate occasions in my life I was so poor of spirit I was facing feelings of despair. In both instances I turned to my parish priest and told him the situation and asked him for spiritual direction and in both cases he agreed and I was transformed through the experience. It didn't change my trials or the cross God sends to me but it sure did help in carrying the weight. I am sure you realize that the sin of Judas is never an answer. Our priests are really a Simon of Serene and much more. Most of them are professionally trained as counselors as well. They won't steer you wrong and you can be frank with them without fear of being judged or exposed. Will you go see your priest about whats troubling you my friend? If you will tell me yes I personally will be relieved. There is always hope my friend.

Good move. Yes professional advice is the way to go. Not those of a virtual reality site who may or may not have issues themselves.

Did you check that site I offered you earlier. It has a locator whereby you can find someone in your area. Its a very good site and doesn't just willy nilly list someone to contact. Check it out.

A Catholic will understand your faith.

You would have all the more reason to despair if you have no repentance, if you didn't continually try. St Isaac the Syrian had said that the closer you draw near to paradise, this will be your sign: the multitude of the temptations that gather against you.

Christ has overcome the world, and no matter how many times you fall, should you stand again, you are walking in justification. Repent, confess, shake the dust from your sandals and push forward -- your sins are as a handful of sand, God's mercy, as an infinite ocean. What are your sins in comparison to the act on the Cross?

May the Lord visit you with peace.

thank you very much, that is very kind of you to say that

So you have been like "this" since 15 or 16 years old? When you say "this", do you mean struggling with sin or depressed?

If you have been battling depression since the teen years, you need to go to your parents and tell them what is going on and let them help you.

Struggling with sin is not the issue here. It's depression and one does not have much to do with the other. Depression is clinical, not spiritual (although it can be but this is not a case of that).

You need to go to your parents, grandparents, aunt, uncle, siblings, someone and tell them you need medical help.

both i guesse
I have tried telling my parents before, it is hard because I really recpect both of them, they are great people, I do not talk about them a lot on this site, but in real life, I always mention little anecdotes about them.
They think I just need to focus more, they have a very negative view of phycological treatment and mood altering medicine

Alex, bull.

They are your parents and you need to tell them you need help. Depression kills and you think they want to bury you? I'm talking to you as a parent of young adults myself. TELL THEM and let them hep you.

You have depression. This is not about sin, it's not about you not being perfect, it is about you being sick and needing help. This is about how depression is interfering with your life and you need to get hep now because as you get older, it will only get worse.

Do not be ashamed or too proud to get help. The sin is only a manifestation of the depression, not the other way around.
