• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"he does correct us, but not by making us suffer in any way" but im pretty sure the bible says he does...that he gives trials in a person's life in order to correct that person

maybe God wants suffering if it is in line with what he planned...maybe his plan is more important than what humans feel...if suffering and death is what he wants he's gonna allow it to happen and we're not supposed to understand anything...maybe we are nothing....

like with the Job story...it just feels like humans are just puppets in some game played by God/satan/angels etc...humans are powerless and they are just there to suffer and die for the amusement of others or to fulfil someone else's plans...it feels like were just being used and abused...and no one's giving us true answers to anything... God just seems like a shady salesperson trying to sell us false hope...and it feels like whoever it is whether it is satan or God, people will ultimately be the victims...so it makes no difference whose side you are on...
Heya again,

Well look to Genesis, God created man in his image. Gave us a garden full of fruit and we never toiled. God had great plans for us. Is it his fault that we sinned against him?

Since then God had a losing campaign to bring us to him. Many cases we should be lucky he has not purged our existance as a failed creation from this earth. We are his children, and he has used Jesus to show the way home. Question is do you curse at God for making you feel like a puppet with broken strings, or do you look deep inside and unlock what God knows inside you?

I don't know about you, but I tried the cursing and ignoring god.... got me no where and fustrated with an empty life. Choose to accept his love and my life been slowly turning around for the better.

To me God used Job to express a point, we are just wasting away on this earth but God created it from physics to math to every molecule. Really got ask yourself who is the wiser? Job learned a lesson, as we all, and in return he got rewarded for it.

not necessarily a puppet with broken strings...i mean -the human race generally feels like a puppet that's being used and abused by God Satan and everything else that may exist
we're not given answers that can be understood ...even Job didnt technically recieve an answer....it seemed like God was simply telling Job to shut up and endure the suffering cause he was God-or that he was just a dumb human who didnt know anything and thus had no right to question...

obviously God is wiser than humans but so is satan and all the angels etc...everything else in this world seems wiser than humans even the animals...human beings r just stuck in the middle of the game played between Satan/ God & in the midst of all this suffering we have no power over anything and no answers...its just too depressing...maybe its better not to have existed at all

but has there ever been a case in the bible where someone actually repented but suffering still continued? (maybe Judas - the person who sold jesus (?) i think there would be many cases in real life where repentance doesnt do anything...

what does repentance actually mean? cause to me it seems worthless...repentance doesnt change the past...suffering may still continue even if you repent

Suffering is an emotional response to the way I choose to look at a situation. As an example notice that the pessimist chooses to see the glass as half empty and as a result gets a negative emotional response to it. The optimist on the other hand sees the glass as still being half full. Same quantity but two differing responses to it. The pessimistic response causes suffering while the other does not. The spiritual Christian goes even further by seeing that not only is the glass still half full but has trust that God will refill the glass before it's needed.

The negative emotions of the pessimist is the result of of a negative mindset that has been reaffirmed over and over until the response is so quick it appears automatic. As a result of this mindset and it attendant suffering, the pessimist is motivated to try to get his/her needs and wants met through stealing, cheating and manipulating. I agree with you that repenting of the stealing, cheating, etc. can still leave one suffering but that's because the core issue is not being repented of which is the pessimistic mindset. When the the mindset is repented of and our prayer is that God removes it and shows how He will give us what we need, then the need for the grosser sins and/or suffering is no longer a problem.

Repentance at a deep level does change our emotional response to our past because we come to see that our suffering was as a result of our own mindset. God was always there ready to supply what we needed but we took matters into our own hands and often aggravated the situation.

Even in those cases were we may have been victimized in ways that were beyond our ability to control, God has put forgiveness in place to take away our suffering. It is in situations like that were we really need to rely on Him but He will come through when we have an honest desire to see it His way. I experienced that when I pray for someone who has victimized me to be blessed to the degree I wish to be, then forgiveness came and I no longer need to suffer from the resentment.

First I say why drown in thoughts of something we have no control over? If you lived your life in fear then you are not living life. I know any given moment of any given day I can be hit by a car or be killed by any number of ways. I am cautious and use common sense, but I know that I can't hide in fear every day.

Faith and hope, these are the starting point to salvation. Faith that God and Jesus( great father and our lord) are there watching over us, looking out for us. There are things in this world that I can not even begin to understand. I found all that worry and fear are just garbage. I try to better myself for not must my own desires but for his glory.

Maybe it is easy for me to cope since I have great admiration for soldiers. People who put their own lives and souls on the line to defend what they cherish and love. I see a war played in everywhere, and we are soldiers of God. We don't want to kill our fellow man, but defeat the satanic influience that controls evil men's minds. It is a battlefield for hearts and souls of everyday men and women. What would this world be without God's influence and guidance right now? Thought is pretty scary if you ask me, be completely animal like than human.

Mark 5:9-13
"And he replied, “My name is Legion, because there are many of us inside this man.” 10 Then the evil spirits begged him again and again not to send them to some distant place.

11 There happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding on the hillside nearby. 12 “Send us into those pigs,” the spirits begged. “Let us enter them.” 13 So Jesus gave them permission. The evil spirits came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the entire herd of 2,000 pigs plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned in the water."

I know who my enemies are, I know what they want to do with me. Came close to winning, but somehow I didn't commit suicide when I was younger. Sometimes they attack by outside force, others they go straight to the mind. We fight this battle every day and not even know it. Had to ask myself, is this really me? Am I the one in control? Where these actions my own?

For myself, I believe God trying to teach me something like a father trying help his child mature and stand up on his own feet. It's not easy since I can be my own worse enemy at times.

Anyways I can't tell you with crystal clearity about all of this. Hope my experiences can be of help. Don't lose hope.

what happens if the knowledge of God's forgiveness doesnt technically remove the suffering...

also is it still possible for one to repent and literally change their mind set/world view but still suffer the consequence of sin? if the answer is yes - if God allows suffering in order for the person to repent and change their ways why does he allow the consequences of the sin to continue even when the person has repented?

Knowing that God forgives may not relieve suffering. I have posted previouslythat God does not bring us suffering in any way. Job is an example of that, satan brought on Jobs suffering not God. God does not wish us harm in any way, it's the world we live in, the sin, that causes us to suffer, often times at the hands of others, but also because we've sinned, and made a poor choice. But God does not send suffering.

All in the world sin, and often times there is no seen conseuqence to them. The bible often laments how the wicked prosper while the righteous suffer. So, we don't always see a result to our sin. For example, sorry so basic, but God says to obey all authorities. If I speed and do not get caught, there seems to be no conseuqence. There is consequence to sin, but we may not see it now, it may be revealed later how our sin impacted others, but since we will be with God and wholly forgiven as we are even now, not any fear, there is nothing to worry about.

If a person commits a crime, goes to jail, then by repenting, that person does not get out of jail because he repented, he may, but most likely will have to finish his sentence.

And just again, there is much suffering in the world, we go through valleys and hills. God in no way desires us to suffer. However we do, and God promises that He will bring good out of it somehow. So you may now be suffering but down the line, see the good that came out of it. We don't usually see the good while we are suffering, however many do, but some don't see it until they look back, and see how there lives were changed because of it.

Blessings,
tapero

A head knowledge that God has forgiven me is not the same as a heart knowledge. The most important qualification to receive the forgiveness from God is for me to forgive others as He has me.

also is it still possible for one to repent and literally change their mind set/world view but still suffer the consequence of sin? if the answer is yes - if God allows suffering in order for the person to repent and change their ways why does he allow the consequences of the sin to continue even when the person has repented?
Often we need a good reminder of the ramifications of sin. We humans have a tendency to forget the consequences of our actions as time goes by and will often pick up on the same sin years later.

For God to stop suffering He would have to take away our "free will". Suffering is a choice that we make. It isn't a command from God that we must suffer but we all do need to live life on life's terms. How we feel about the things that happen to us or the losses we experience is a choice we make by our mindset and willingness to trust that only a good relationship with God is of any lasting value.

I realized much of this because I spent years suffering. I started to realize as time went on that much of my suffering was as a result of self-pity. The self-pity was in turn as a result of a lack of humility. The thinking that I was somehow special and these things shouldn't be happening to me because I was a "christian" was i not?
But as a good christian friend said to me after contracting lung cancer, "why not me?" He suffers physically because of the medication and chemo but not spiritually or emotionally because he has been able to accept what he has.

Looking to blame God, people, places and things for my suffering was a bitter pill that never had a resolution until I took responsibility for it being of my own making. I still sometimes have the temptation to take on the emotional suffering when bad things happen but within a day or so remember that I can choose differently. Learn what I need to learn, forgive who I need to forgive, and mostly put God in His rightful place. As long as He is the all in all then any other losses are of minor importance.

God bless.

why does god allow mental pain/depression/anxiety?...as a christian i try to think that there is some hope and that things happen for a reason and purpose...but it is sometimes too difficult to believe this....

the bible says that God will not give trials and hardships beyond what the person can endure...but how come there are ppl in the mental hospitals who have lost all sanity? clearly these ppl have had enough hardships to lose their minds..?

can someone please tell me something from the bible which sheds some light on this?

also: I read somewhere that Job's trials only occured for a duration of a couple of weeks...is this true?
JOb got a direct answer from God...and God later blessed him with even more than what he had before... But what about the people who endure hardships for years and years with no answer from God? Jobs trials seem very insignificant compared to what others go through

i am still a christian and i am not trying to bring down the bible or god...i reallllly want an answer to this

i feel myself slowly abandoning the belief in God...its too hard

God gave Adam a perfect life with no sickness Genesis 2:15 - 16 but Adam didn`t follow this law so the punishment was death Roman 5:12, Job14:4 and a unperfect life Genesis 3:16 - 19, 23 - 24
God have promise us to do something about this because of that Jesus come to the earth and gave his life for us.Why must Jesus come to the earth and die for us.This is a priciple that god have Deuteronomy 19:21 So Jesus was a kind of "money" so could have a perfect life in the future 1 Timothy 2:5 - 6

The perfect life you can read in Rev 21:4, Job 33:25, Isaiah 33:24

This is a short answer on your question:)
