I cringe when I read some writers talking about their workplace being a 'mission field' first and foremost. It demeans their work and it buys into the false understanding that God's purpose for our work is that we evangelise. After all Jesus was a carpenter for 30 years befoer his ministry went public. Does that mean the first 30 years of his life, or the 15 years or so of his working life are of 'less value'? Worth considering.

I do agree that God instituted work even in the Garden of Eden. So, even before there was a need to evangelize to anyone, God instituted work. The Bible says that we should work.

But again, a Christian should use basically any opportunity, whether it be at work, at a party, at a Convention, at home, at the gym, etc., to tell people about Jesus (ideally, as the Holy Spirit leads).

If we sat next to each other in the cafeteria at work and I started to talk about long division. I went on and on about it. I said that only people who did long division were smart, people who used calculators are morons and I constantly invited you to meetings at the long division club. What would your response be?

Long division doesn't affect a person's eternal destiny. What they do with Christ does.

I believe the best evangelism in the workplace is the way you conduct yourself everyday. When something happens, do you curse? When a co-worker starts to gossip, do you listen in? Do you join the gang after work for drinks? If you work in a job involving cash flow do you make sure to be above reproach in your dealings? Do you use company time to fool around on the internet? Do you try and share another co-workers burdens?

All these thing speak of not only your character but who lives within you. Do you look for chances to minister in any way? Or do you sit back and observe like others? Do you pray for your co-workers and boss? Ask the L-RD how he can use you in the workplace, who he has placed you there to witness to and give your best to the job while always keeping your eyes and ears open to shine the light of Jesus to those watching. :)

A word of warning for Christians. If you feel the need to spread your religion at work make sure you are ROCK SOLID in your belief. As a former Christian I know more about the bible than a good half of the people in church on any given Sunday.

I had a lady at work come to me and try to witness. No one at my work knows I am an atheist but she picked the wrong person.... While I was never rude I pointed out the myriad of things in her own life that went against the teachings of Christ but she continued to do on a regular basis. I also talked to her about some of the huge problems I have with the Christian theology and the bible in general. I got the ball rolling in her head, she has some serious thinking to do now...

Why is this the least active of the ministry forums.

THIS is the front line of ministry and evangelism. Work is where the unsaved are ... in their millions !!

You haven't got to put on a special show, they are all there...

(rant over) ;)

Yes, in other words, actions speak louder than words. Thx for the reminder.
