I think the mental health aspect of healthcare is sorely lacking. I’m glad you found a doctor willing to listen. Many don’t.My main reason for being opposed to them was because I was prescribed Imipramine (sp) years ago and the side effects were horrible. I decided I wasn’t going to take psych meds after that. Then I was referred to a doctor who let me participate in making meds decisions rather than prescribing something and expecting me to take them. I started out slowly then built up when I realized I wasn’t having any side effects. And no more Imipramine.
