Hello there. I am fairly new here and just have to ask for support or prayers. I am a new SDA, just Baptized 2 Sabbath's ago. I was a part of a mommy group and after some interest in religion talk I asked the moderator to start a religion board. It has gotten a little sad...people questioning or attacking me because of how I am holding firm to how I believe. One post I can say is that someone asked about plastir surgery and if GOd woudl think it was okay and she is my friend as well so I gave her an honest answer, correct me if I am wrong but isn't it not right? I told them a few scriptures about how our bodies were the Lord's temple and how we need to take care of them and not alter them. She is wanting to do this for personal reasons, insecurities etc. I told her to find comfort in the Lord and he would help her but not to let worldly things as how you should look influence her but to let the Lord influence her. I was extremely nice and here is a reply that I got, 2 actually, 1 is from an evolutionist who has made it very clear to us that she does not believe in God and one is a new believer but does not have a church or anyting yet...here you go, tell me what you think but I am extrmeley discouraged. I did reply to them...but do not feel very happy. Let me add that the post title was to "followers of Christ" which made me more sad :(

Call me crazy, but I dont see anywhere in here that it says that plastic surgery is wrong. Regardless of what you alter about your body it will still be the "temple of the Holy Ghost" if you choose to worship him.

Kim, would you consider it the same if someone wears make up, glasses, paints their nails, gets a tattoo or dyes their hair?? It could be argued that its the same thing. If you dont mind answering, whats the difference? If those quotes apply to plastic surgery, would they also apply to altering and/or improving one's appearance or capabilities in other ways as well?

Yes, I agree...those verses do say our the temple of God, but not that we can't have plastic surgery. Also, why is it ok for someone in a tragic accident to get it? I mean, it was God's will that that happened to them right?? It's all or nothing right? I thought you said that a while back about the bible. Who are we to say when it's ok and when it's not....
That is what they said. Here is my reply to them and I think maybe I shoudl leave the board alone now? I feel it stressing me out and wonder what you think, should I just leave it?

Okay, they did not have plastic surgery in Biblical times so the Bible would not say that plastic surgery was wrong. Tamara asked a good question and addressed it to "followers of Christ". If you are not a follower of Christ and have made it clear to us that you have absolutely no interest in it then why are you so interested in this topic? Why do you want to understand God's word after you have rejected it? Not being rude but that is something that I am curious about. Christians that read my reply should know what it means to manipulate their body whether the want to believe it or not, they have the Holy Spirit and they know right from wrong. Our body is our temple and we shall treat it as the Lord's and not let the worldy influences of what we should look like influence us but let the love of the Lord for us influence us. I am sorry you do not understand.

Tamara is my friend not just "online" and if she has a question about what I posted then she can ask me and we will talk about it Christian to Christian.

For health or medical reasons is a completely different subject than this post is about...I am talking about doing this just because. I would suggest some prayer and let the Lord show you what everything I have said means if it did not make sense. I explained it the best that I could and that is all I can do.

And about God's will and things that happen to you is a compltely different subject.

Sincerely,
Kim

So that is it. I am new and I know my beliefs but to explain them clear enough maybe I am not ready for although I have been praying a lot. Look forward to hearing from you.

I love you guys lol what you are saying is the truth. If Giod wanted us to "look" a certain way, he would have made us in that way. Everything you said is correct I too run a forum, but only for SDA's and hafe been to others and they all ask the same thing about tatoos and all that nonsence, but it's like no matter how much sense you make they refuse to listen, just show them the verse and let them be. What they decide to do afterwards is between her and God. There is a difference between not knowing the truth and knowing the truth and still rejecting it. What my point was I'm not sure, but you are right in what you told her.

Hi,

Good to have you here and welcome to the faith!

We find out very quickly many others don't agree with the things we think it's simple and clear in the bible. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned.

And we who believe to have the truth are often a burden to others.

I've found out that more-often-than-not less is more. You give your opinion then you let the spirit do the rest. By going into long debates with people who are defensive will often do the opposite. So be wise, say a few words. It will leave a bigger impression.

Lastly don't be discouraged. The way is straight and narrow and few that find it. Jesus does not force himself on those who aren't willing. We should preach the message and know it's not our job to convict the hearts.

Thank you! Your words are very inspiring. About less words, I can completely see your point because that is how I got to where I am now, by my best friend who did not push anything on me but just answered any questions I asked and said very little. But when something conflicted with her beliefs she did not back down and said how seh felt. It was encouraging and it is what made me get to where I am, so thanks again and I am glad to be a part of this board.

You said you run an SDA forum, where is that? Do you have the link, the more I read the more I will know and I would love to learn more :)

Thanks again,
Kim
