Hi Everyone,

I used to be a Christian (a very new one) for a couple of months, I prayed and went to the local evangelical church and I felt truly at peace. Then I moved and totally let my faith lapse, and then explored other faiths such as Buddhism etc. and became Pagan.

However for the last 6 months or more I have not being practicing paganism. I don’t know, but I seem to have lost interest in it and I feel it isn’t helping me to grow spiritually as a person. I don’t really know what to believe and I think I have become what some people term as “lost” or “confused” perhaps? I don’t know…

Has anyone went through this?

Mt.13:1That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9He who has ears, let him hear." 10The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" 11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables:
"Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
" 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15For this people's heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them. 16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

If you can see yourself or your spiritual condition in the above mention parable then "Repent or Turn" from your condition and you will be healed. Being lost or confused can be apart of the whole salvation/relationship with God process.. When you ready, go back to God.

Hi there....

I have definitely been there - it's like I knew in my heart that Christianity holds the truth, but I couldn't wrap my head around it, and I allowed that to hold me back. Later I just decided to quit waffling and jump in to Christianity with both feet and trust God to change my head. I even rememeber righting a poem that was a plea to God for "simple belief". I was asking him to change my mind and allow me to just believe - He has!

The thing is that Christianity is of the heart. God speaks to our hearts and moves us through our hearts, meaning the deeper part of you that is not cooly analytical. I really feel you're on a good journey, or 'process', as drich put it, and it is sooooo true, as I learn on an ever-deeper level, that when you seek Him, you will find Him.

bless you
tal

I haven't been through the specific circumstance that you described. However I was not raised Christian, so I know what it is like to practice a false religion. It is good that you are considering your ways to see if they are the will of God. This may perhaps be evidence of God working in your life. Though God has declared all humans guilty of sin and has lifted his hand in anger against us, he forbears the blow, and is waiting for us to turn to him in repentance. Today is the day of salvation, and right now you can repent of the sins of Buddhism and paganism, and turn to God through his Son Jesus Christ. We are all sinners in need of repentance, and God offers it freely. It does not come through false religions, but only through faith in his Son.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I think that is what it might be, I said my first prayer last night and basically chatted to God and now I feel a little uplifted. I am going to continue exploring my spiritual issues and continue to explore Christianity, and see how things go.

Thanks again :)

If you were to die today and stand before God to be judged, would you go to Heaven or to Hell? Why?

I think everyone goes through their own version of this. And I reckon it's important..everyone needs that point in their life when they really come to understand what they believe and why. It's just unfortunate that it seems to always be so confusing...:sorry:

I'm really glad that you had a good prayer experience :) Have you been able to read the Bible lately? That's always good experience as well :)

I'll be praying for you :)

And btw - welcome to CF :)

OOOOH YEs. I was the same way. Became Christian, then tryed to aquire 'special powers'. Didn't feel I was getting anywhere, so I went back to God, and told myself I was NEVER doing that Paganist crap again. You just have to go back to Christ. He'll accept you back with open arms.
It's like the parable: (It's Long, but I suggest you read it)

There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, "Father, give me my share of the estate." So he divided his property between them. Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.
After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. When he came to his senses, he said, "How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men." So he got up and went to his father.

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son." But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." So they began to celebrate.
Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. "Your brother has come," he replied, "and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound." The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. But he answered his father, "Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!" "My son," the father said, "you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." (Luke 15:11-32)

You've seen how moving from one label to another doesn't fit the way you're thinking. Faith is what's inside of you. What you yourself believe.

It is good to learn from others, and get into supportive communities, but if anyone decides to totally espouse a new religion, there's something inside that feels fake. The trial and error of a practice takes time, and we will seldom agree completely with one group of people.

Decide what you want to learn. Then find the sources you might learn from. That will be nourishing your spirit, and you will have greater control over where you eventually belong. Many people never fit, never feel completely puzzle-pieced into a faith group, and I think that's a good thing. It keeps a group healthy.

I would suggest going through the phone book and looking for some very unusual Christian churches, to see the range of diversity possible. Start visiting some, and see your visits as learning experiences instead of declarations of who you are and where you belong. Belong to yourself. Belong to the One who formed your spirit lovingly, like clay.
