• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Is it possible to have mania and obsessive thoughts running at the same time? It is very hard to overcome this. I am on a manic high yet I keep obsessing at the same time, ie, I have thoughts running through my mind. I had a hard time stopping this and it is having an effect on my relationship with the Lord. I have prayed about it and it stops temporarily, but it keeps coming back. How do I continue to calm down my mind? Now I am very worried about my relationship with the Lord because of this. I am also scared of the fact that I will have a negative balance on my bank account, for the third month in a row. I need help and I am afraid that I won't be able to get help on my account anytime soon. How do I overcome this? Should I get more medication? How should I tell my counselor about this? I am concerned about this.

Why are you worried about your relationship with God because of this?

It might be a combination of mania and OCD... have you tried any certain things that would calm you down? (I don't even mean medicine, just like little exercises that help put your mind at ease.)

I prayed to live for and serve and obey the Lord. I have been too manic to do all of those things. It has not been easy to not focus or concentrate to concentrate on nothing but men. I am sure this is mania. I feel so horrible, but I feel better. I have tried prayer and hypnosis, but it not easy to focus.

Sounds a bit up and down.
Well dont do hypnosis thats not going to help.
Whatever meds you on, continue, dont drastically withdraw.

Spiritually, seems you have fear as one thing thats afflicting you. I dont know what you afraid of, but fear can be cast out.

Are you in fellowship in a church and are their any elders who can pray with you and minister to you?

If prayer is working a little bit, that means it will probably go away eventually if you keep seeking God. (It could also be tied to the meditative aspect of prayer, or something else.) Keep praying! What you're describing sounds like symptoms of a manic stage of bipolar disorder. (It may not be separately diagnosed as OCD, although I'm not any sort of doctor.)

It's always a good idea to keep visiting the same psychiatrist regularly until you are happy with the effects of the medication or the doctor says you've tried everything. It can take a long time to get the mix of meds just right. Seeing a psychologist for therapy is also important for the long-term. Working through the issues that caused the illness or sustain it is essential to getting well and staying well. Without therapy a person may heal, but my guess is that it would take decades if/when the condition is bad. Also, not dealing with it can cause other problems to show up. I believe the Social Anxiety Disorder I had was a key ingredient for the Major Depression and Bipolar Disorder II that I got two decades later.
