On waking this morning, I came to some real personal revelation: the Orthodox Church is His Church! I am going to be inquiring about classes from the Priest at the Serbian Mission, and on checking it out with moderators here, I've changed my "faith icon". I figured since I have to start my life all over, I might as well start with my "image" of myself at CF!

So, in celebration of that, because I feel like a new person, I'm leaving my old thread with all my original questions behind and starting this new one.

Here's my first question as a person committed to Orthodoxy:
Are there "Irish" Orthodox? I am first generation Irish in America. Was there ever such a thing as Orthodoxy in Ireland? As I recall from Irish history classes, the Roman church evangelized Ireland by St. Patrick (I still love him.) He died in 461 AD, so he must have been Orthodox? That means that all that I love about my homeland is Orthodox???

God bless you, Suzannah!

You might be interested to know that St. Patrick of Ireland is fully recognized as a saint by the Orthodox Church. And his memory is still celebrated on March 17th.

O holy hierarch, Patrick, wonderworker, equal to the Apostles and illuminator of the Irish people, pray to the merciful God that He will pardon our transgressions.

There is a story among sailors, that St. Patrick often went "down to the docks" to evangelize the pirates, and the workers....that he had a special love for them. :)
I've always loved him too! As a protestant, I used his method of explaining the Trinity (shamrock) many times and people always understood it from that example. He truly was a hero of the Faith.

Patriarch Pavle of the Serbian Orthodox Church is a living saint.
"If we live as people of God, there will be room for all nations in the Balkans and in the world. If we liken ourselves to Cain who killed his brother Abel, then the entire earth will be too small even for two people. The Lord Jesus Christ teaches us to be always children of God and love one another. We should remember the words of St. Paul: "If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men."

St Patrick is celebrated in the Orthodox Church. My sister's church (which is Serbian also) has a relic of St. Patrick's (a little piece of bone).

Question 2: So the name of the mission where I am going to inquire is: St. John of Kronstadt , Serbian Orthodox Mission. Does anyone know anything about "Serbian" Orthodox?
My sister's church is a Serbian Orthodox Church. It was the first Orthodox Church that i ever attended....It sounds like you have found a truly wonderful and loving little church. And what better time? We are drawing ever closer to the Lenten season. And Pascha (Easter) in the Orthodox Church is beyond compare.
