  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hungry All The Time?

I wanted to find out if anyone has experienced what I'm experiencing.

I'm a little over 7 weeks along now, and I am hungry all the time. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat - I'm still hungry. This is no fun because not only do I have all-day "morning" sickness (so I don't really feel like eating), I'm starting to get the low blood sugar shakes in the middle of the night, waking me up. I have them now, actually, even though I just ate a good dinner and then had a protein smoothie.

I really do think I'm taking in enough calories, so I don't understand what's going on.

Any suggestions? This is killing me!

I was never hungry...but I was always sick. I lost weight for probably 1/2 my pregnancy. Just about the only thing I could keep down was fruit...and I couldn't eat too terrible much of that. I was so disgusted with the thought of eating. In fact, I would say most of my pregnancy has been that way...up until my last dr. appt. when she gave me some good medicine to help with my reflux and my nausea. Since she gave me that, I gained 8 lbs. in a week and a half!!!! LOL

O don't worry that is completely normal! I went through that myself, it has nothing to do with not getting enough calories. It's just the hormonal change in you, it will taper off eventually.
I'm glad to know this is "normal", though it feels anything but! I thought I was going to die last night.

Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of the nausea is to eat. I just don't want to gain 50 lbs or anything :)

That is the key, eating does help decrease nausea, if your stomach is empty you are more likely to feel sick. Like Linnus mentioned, eating several small meals a day will help.

Don't worry about the weight gain issue, your body will gain what it's supposed to gain. Every woman gains during pregnancy so you should expect that.

I think I figured out that my sea sickness bands I was wearing to try and help with the all-day sickness were actually making me hungrier! I haven't been wearing them for almost a week, and the hunger has subsided quite a bit. I also don't notice a big difference in the amount of nausea, so I don't think they were really helping.

I'm not pregnant, but I know a woman who is 5 mths along and she has only gained 8 oz so far. That does not sound healthy to me. What do you all think?
Depends on her pre-pregnancy weight. If she were overweight for her body type than no as it's not uncommon for a woman to loose weight while pregnant if she were overweight to begin with. If the woman's underweight, than it's probably unhealthy. I was underweight and I gained more than the average amount of weight.

The whole 25-35 lbs is for the average woman, of average weight and height. Very few people fit into those numbers.

I don't think she's underweight. She's probably on the low end for her height. I didn't even notice she was pregnant. I don't know... I just think it's odd especially when she told me she gained 20lbs for her first child.

@ five months, I hadn't gained anything and had only lost. I didn't start REALLY gaining til seven months then lost all @ 8, finally started regaining this month...only 19 total...but dr. said you are going to gain what your body needs to gain no matter how much it is. I wouldn't say it is unhealthy...just all that she really needs to gain for now.

Thank you. I barely know her, I was just concerned because every pregnant woman I know gained at least 15 lbs by the 5th month. Thanks again for your response!

No problem! I tihnk it is pretty normal to be concerned about it because typically, women gain quite a bit during pregnancy...I know I was concerned and it took me FOREVER for my dr. to convince me that it really was okay and that baby was getting his...besides...LOL hopefully most of my pregnancy weight will go away with baby! :)
