My sarcasm was not directed at you. I read the article attached, and agree with what was written.

However, the very first post was a screed against Republicans, followed by another, never really addressing the real problems this country has, and that no one wants to discuss.
Blessings.
Then instead of sarcasm, disprove that the republicans are not trying to defund WIC, a program designed to help single mothers and their children from hunger. What I posted fits right in to what the OP was discussing.

If Joe Biden's economy is so great, and everyone has "good paying jobs" how can all these children be without food?
Ask the republicans who are trying to do away with free school lunches and WIC, which is contributing to child hunger.

I have no desire to go back to working at Wal-Mart like I had to under the previous occupant of the White House. Perhaps some people need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
Curious what did Trumps do to make you change jobs?

Good question. I have worked through the Carter, Reagan, HW Bush, Clinton, GWB, Obama, Trump, and Biden adminstrations- None of them did anything to make me change jobs.

Not as much lately, but the USA is still the land of opportunity - some take those opportunities, some don't. I have been employed by some who did. Bad trade deals have destroyed manufacturing in the US.

Government can either help or hinder you, in the quest for opportunity.

Curious, what happened lately?

NAFTA destroyed manufacturing in the USA. Do you think it was government policy, corporations or a combination of both?
This administration reversed the previous ones efforts to revive manufacturing.

As far as NAFTA, it was a dirty deal between politicians and businesses to get cheaper products. Before you think I'm going to rip Clinton for it, keep in mind that HW Bush also supported it. I voted for Buchanan in the primary, and Perot in the general. Supporters will boast of stock market numbers, but it hollowed out main street. To summarize, I'll repeat a quote from author James Howard Kunstler 's blog: " you can't replace ball bearing factories with amusement parks, and hedge funds".

"Manufacturing" in USA these days is predominantly "assembly" of imported parts. A salesman gave each of us yeti mugs as Christmas gifts in our department. The brochure inside the mug from yeti stated "designed in Texas, made in China". If I was the Yeti folks, I'd be a little embarrassed by that.

But you do know we are reshoring manufacturing? What was actually reversed in Trump manufacturing policy?

I guess mothers and their children will be needing bootstraps because the republicans are actively trying to provide less for hungry mothers and their children.
When I saw this recently, I assumed it was fake or a parody, but no...

Job went to another country.
Which profession were you in that was sent oversees? I know we lost textile (which my in-laws worked) in the 90s in El Paso because of NAFTA. Just curious.

I was a human resources manager for a research and development unit. Anything more about the job identifies me and I don't need people protesting my house while I'm in the Middle East.

1 in 5 kids go without food in the US? I thought we had an obesity problem in the US with kids.

If you ask me we have a cultural problem in the US among the poor who aren't taking care of their kids and spending money on cigarettes, booze and drugs. Fathers who are not providing for the kids they create. I know quite a few poor parents who trade their food cards for cigarettes, booze or drugs. There is a ton of services for people. There is no excuse for kids not having enough food.

In fact the truth is they do have enough food. Among the poor they are the most obese. These kids are not going hungry. So can we please stop the kids are all starving and no one cares nonsense. They are not.

No we should NOT end all the welfare help the kids programs. So don't start that.

Classic denial and blame the kids, blame the parents and blame the heart. It makes it so much easier to say 'no more money for you' in the loudest tough love voice available.

Happy New Year, same as the old year.

Refute the article with evidence instead of making assumptions Are you also one to think all homeless people are drug addicts?

74 million children (2) times 8.5% (1) equals 6,290,000 million food-insecure children in 2022.

You can have epidemics of obesity and hunger at the same time. However, obese children are not current food-insecure children, but they may have been food insecure at one time leading to habits of overeating when food is available.

  • "Household food insecurity affected 17.3 percent (6.4 million) of households with children in 2022. In some of these food-insecure households only adults were food insecure, while in other households children also experienced food insecurity.
  • In 8.5 percent (3.2 million) of households with children, only adults were food insecure.
  • Both children and adults were food insecure in 8.8 percent of households with children (3.3 million households)."

Children have parents. Shouldn't that be the primary focus of why children are in poverty? I know it doesn't get the heart strings tugged, so most "research" fails to mention them

(The issues The Lord has personally delivered me from are marked with * lest anyone thinks I being snobbish about this...)

Alcoholism*, drug abuse*, immaturity,* money mismanagement,* porn, divorce, are all things that government money and free food alone will not solve, and therefore the children of these parents, will not only go hungry, but many will learn the habits and go on to repeat them with their children.

So what can we tell our politicians to do?
