In Genesis 1, God creates animals and then humans:

And God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.’ And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. [Genesis 1:24-27 (NRSV)]

In Genesis 2, God creates man and then animals as possible helpers for him:

… when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up — for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the ground; but a stream would rise from the earth, and water the whole face of the ground — then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being…

Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.’ So out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever man called each living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper as his partner. [Genesis 2:5-7, 18-20 (NRSV)]

According to Genesis, Terah was 70 when Abraham (then Abram) was born:

When Terah had lived for seventy years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. [Genesis 11:26 (NRSV)]

Terah took Abraham to live in a place called Haran, where Terah died at the ripe old age of 205:

Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan; but when they came to Haran, they settled there. The days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran. [Genesis 11:31-32 (NRSV)]

At this point, Abraham was called by God to leave Haran, and obediently did so:

Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be bless.’ So Abram went, as the Lord had told him… [Genesis 12:1-4a (NRSV)]

If Abraham was born when Terah was 70, and left Haran after Terah died aged 205, then when he left Haran he must have been at least 135 years old. Genesis, though, tells us that he was still only 75 years old:

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. [Genesis 12:4 (NRSV)]

The temptation is to harmonise these verses by saying that they don’t relate events in chronological order. Although it is natural to read them as having Abraham leave Haran after Terah’s death, perhaps the verse about Terah dying in Haran aged 205 is just an aside, and actually happened later than it appears in this narrative. Perhaps Terah was 70 when Abraham was born, then took Abraham to Haran, then Abraham left Haran aged 75, and then Terah died in Haran aged 205.

This is perfectly plausible as a reading of Genesis, but it conflicts with Acts. In Acts, Stephen tells the high priest about the call of Abraham, explicitly stating that Terah was dead when he left Haran:

And Stephen replied: ‘Brother and fathers, listen to me. The God of glory appeared to our ancestor Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, and said to him, “Leave your country and your relatives and go to the land that I will show you.” Then he left the country of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. After his father died, God had him move from there to this country in which you are now living…’ [Acts 3:2-4 (NRSV

Deuteronomy gives Moserah as the place of Aaron’s death:

The Israelites journeyed from Beeroth-bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; his son Eleazar succeeded him as priest. From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with flowing streams. [Deuteronomy 10:6-7 (NRSV)]

However, Numbers has the Israelites continue their journey from Moseroth, and later says that Aaron died on Mount Hor:

They set out from Hashmonah and camped at Moseroth. They set out from Moseroth and camped at Bene-jaakan. They set out from Bene-jaakan and camped at Horhaggidgad. They set out from Horhaggidgad and camped at Jotbathah. They set out from Jotbathah and camped at Abronah. They set out from Abronah and camped at Ezion-geber. They set out from Ezion-geber and camped in the wilderness of Zin (that is, Kadesh). They set out from Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, on the edge of the land of Edom. Aaron the priest went up Mount Hor at the command of the Lord and died there in the fortieth year after the Israelites had come out of the land of Egypt, on the first day of the fifth month. [Numbers 33:30-38 (NRSV)]

This agrees with an earlier passage from Numbers:

They set out from Kadesh, and the Israelites, the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor. Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, ‘Let Aaron be gathered to his people. For he shall not enter the land that I have given to the Israelites, because you rebelled against my command at the waters of Meribah. Take Aaron and his son Eleazar, and bring them up Mount Hor; strip Aaron of his vestments, and put them on his son Eleazar. But Aaron shall be gathered to his people, and shall die there.’ Moses did as the Lord commanded; they went up Mount Hor in the sight of the whole congregation. Moses stripped Aaron of his vestments, and put them on his son Eleazar; and Aaron died there on the top of the mountain. [Numbers 20:22-28a (NRSV)]

So where did Aaron die, Moserah or Mount Hor?

There are many more errors in the Bible besides the obveous claims about the flood. But I find bible worshippers are not honest about this issue.

Only God is inerrant.

If you wish to insist that genesis is to be understood literally - fine. But you'll only end up in a reality where that understanding of genesis is quite simply demonstrably incorrect.

Allow me to take up the position of a bible defender for a second.
A "day" is only 24 hours from the perspective of an inhabitant of planet earth.
A "day" on Mars is not 24 hours. A "day" in the vast majority of planets that aren't earth, isn't 24 hours.

In genesis, when it talks about "the first day" - there is no planet earth.

So I don't really see how you can conclude that "a day is a day is a day".

A day is the time it takes for a planet to rotate on its own axis. A day on Mars it NOT a day on Earth.

So, no ... "a day is a day is a day" is a demonstrably incomplete statement.

And since in genesis 1 there is NO planet earthy - I don't see how you can assume that a "day" in genesis, consists of 24 hours.

An earth day consists of 24 hours.

, so to me, the question would be, is this agenda at work, or is there an actual reason to think a day may not be a...well...a day?
