  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm in favour of charging extreme bullying as what it is: harassment. Maybe these are kids in a bad environment pushing them to act out, but if they're old enough to treat another human being that way, they're old enough to take responsibility for their actions. Just as if it were any other kind of abuse enacted towards another person or animal.

But that being said, I think every step should be taken to intervene before it gets to that point. Kids should be taught how to protect themselves offline and online. Parents need to be watching what their children are doing if they are allowed online. And parents and teachers should be watching for signs that something is not right, and be willing to act in whatever way is appropriate to bring a peaceful end to the bullying.

I can agree with that. You deal with it as harassment.

Its sad to say but it seems like Common sense by school administrators is lacking. You see a kid draw a paper gun and they suspend the kid. But a bully can do his deed for years and the school admin's don't do a thing.

I also agree with parents needing to protect their kids online. I was shocked to learn that my 12 year old cousin had a FB account. Why does a 12 year old kid need a facebook? I have no idea.

My ten yearold cousin has facebook, and I was looking through his friends list when he joined. All his friends who seem to be around 8, 9, 10 years old are all on there.

It actually makes me angry in a sense. At least my cousin only goes on during weekends and then my aunt is watching everything he posts. But I don't think children need facebook accounts. It seems like a lot of parents treat the internet the way our generations parents treated TV: like a babysitter. But its so much more dangerous. It opens them up to so much they don't need to be dealing with. They need to be kids. Playing with toys and outside with other kids.

Those kid's Facebook accounts could be supervised by their parents. Well hopefully they are.

And what is exactly wrong with that?

It's not wrong, it's the cultural norm here. I'm not always in the mood to smile back, and sometimes it's just weird. Then again, I'm a northerner at heart.
