  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Matt. 24:36 - many sects try to predict the coming of Christ. But Jesus says, "no one but the Father knows the day and the hour." The sects that try to predict Christ's coming ignore these words.

Matt. 24:44 - the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Matt. 25:13 - watch therefore, and be prepared, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Mark 13:35-37 - watch because you do not know when the Master of the House will come - watch!

Luke 12:46 - the Master will come on a day and at an hour when He is not expected.

Acts 1:7 - Jesus says it is not for us to know the times or seasons which the Father has fixed by His own authority.

1 Thess. 5:2; 2 Peter 3:10; Rev. 3:3 - the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

James 5:7 - be patient until the coming of the Lord. Those who try to predict disregard this inspired teaching.

Rev. 22:20 - Jesus says He is coming soon, but He does not tell us when He is coming.

Ya know i've been thinking alot recently about what the Bible says about the Rapture and the tribulation that is comming, and ya know something? I can't seem to find where in the bible that it talks about Jesus's return occuring BEFORE the great tribulation. Now i know that there are people who belive that Christian and non-Christian alike will suffer through the great tribualtion. What are you guys' thouhts on this issue? Where specifically does it talk about the 2nd comming of Christ before the tribulation?

Well to my knowlege that is what the scripture supports, and thats what im starting to belive in my heart, but growing up i always heard alot about the great rapture and then the 7 years of tribulation, during that time the people who are left behind have a chance to accept Jesus during the tribulation where apon after the 7 years he will come again for a final time to cast satan in the firey lake and that is what Revalations is reffering to. Also the whole Left Behind book series deals with the rapture then tribulation idea as well. I'm just wondering if i missed something in the bible that says the rapture comes before the tribulation.

Could you expand a bit? Do you mean you were taught that Christ would come for the second time, the tribulation would follow, and there would then be a 'third coming'? If so, that is extrodinary and as far as I can see completely unbiblical. I have never heard of the 'left behind' book series, and so I can't comment, but the idea sounds bizarre.

Hi there!

There is a board on the forum for discussions on end time; however, to answer your question.

The return of Christ for His Bride and the second advent of Christ are two separate occurrences....

There are identifiable differences between the two...

#1
Rapture: Christ comes in the air for His own.
Second Coming: Christ comes with His own to earth.
#2
Rapture: Christ returns on a cloud.
Second Coming: Christ returns on a white horse.
#3
Rapture: There will be a Rapture of all true believers.
Second Coming: No one is "caught up"
#4
Rapture: "The Lord is at hand" (Phil 4:5)
Second Coming: "The Kingdom is at hand" (Matt 24:14)
#5
Rapture: The expectation of the church is to be taken into the Lord's presence.
Second Coming: The expectation of Israel is to be taken into the Kingdom.
#6
Rapture: The Church is taken to heaven at the Rapture.
Second Coming: Christ sets up His kingdom on earth.
#7
Rapture: The Rapture is imminent, or, at any moment.
Second Coming: It will be a "glorious appearing" after seven years tribulation.
#8
Rapture: The Rapture is for believers only.
Second Coming: The Second Coming affects all mankind.
#9
Rapture: It is a time of joy and comfort.
Second Coming: It is a time of mourning and judgement.
#10
Rapture: The Rapture is before the Day of Wrath.
Second Coming: It is immediately after the tribulation.
#11
Rapture: There is no mention of satan.
Second Coming: Satan will be bound a thousand years.
#12
Rapture: After the Rapture comes the Judgement Seat of Christ
Second Coming: There is no time/place for judgement.
#13
Rapture: After the Rapture comes the marriage of the Lamb.
Second Coming: The Bride descends with Christ.
#14
Rapture: Christians are taken to the Father's house.
Second Coming: Resurrected saints do not see the Father's house.
#15
Rapture: After Rapture, tribulation comes.
Second Coming: After the Coming, the thousand year reign of Christ begins.
#16
Rapture: The translation is a program for the Church.
Second Coming: The Second Coming is a program for Israel and the world.
#17
Rapture: The translation is a mystery.
Second Coming: The Second Coming is predicted in both testaments.
#18
Rapture: Creation is unchanged.
Second Coming: Creation is changed
#19
Rapture: The Gentiles are unaffected.
Second Coming: The Gentiles are judged.
#20
Rapture: Believers are judged.
Second Coming: Gentiles and Israel are judged.
#21
Rapture: Israel's covenants are unfulfilled.
Second Coming: Israel's covenants are fulfilled.
#22
Rapture: There is no relationship to evil.
Second Coming: Evil is judged.
#23
Rapture: There will be no judgement on earth at the Rapture.
Second Coming: Christ judges mankind.
#24
Rapture: There are no signs of the coming Rapture.
Second Coming: There are many signs for the Second Coming

It's funny you referred to that passage because that was part of the reading for today (tuesday 12/2/03) at daily mass.
