If the story of Jonah and the whale is not true...then Jesus Lied.

MAT 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Ark Guy, we refer to fictional stories all the time for comparison and still know it is a fictional story. For instance, people are said to have a "Herculean" phyique. Now, Hercules was fictional. Does that mean we lie about the physique of the person we are referring to? Does that mean the person referred to is not well-muscled and in extreme physical condition?

Jesus ties the Son of Man to a fictional but well known story to drive home a point.

If you keep this up, Ark Guy, you will convince people Jesus did lie. Are you sure you want to do this? Do you really want to make Jesus a liar?

You have already made Jesus a liar...the bible claims that Jonah was in the belly of a great fish for 3 days and 3 nights.

Tell me, why would Jesus compare his burial to an event that never happened? Arre you claiming that he was never placed in the tomb?

Why would Jesus the second Adam compare himeself to a mythical being...the first Adam?

Seems like your cult like version of christianity is based upon allegorical stories anfd not real life....now that's scary.

troodon, nice cut and paste job..perhaps if you knew anything about what you posted you would see your mistakes.
Nice going, Vance! You predicted Ark Guy's response perfectly. One liners devoid of any content.

Ark Guy, if you know anything about the subjects, you can point out to us the mistakes. Instead, we get this assertion of "mistakes" without showing how they were mistakes.

Ark Guy, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Your whole "living fossils ..." OP was cut and paste. You didn't put quotation marks around the post to indicate that it came from someone else.

Also, as Troodon pointed out, much of the material was written by him.

If you are trying to make Christianity look bad, you are doing a good job. Unfortunately, you are trying it in a forum where the posters won't let you make Christianity look bad, only have Creation Science look like what it is: bad science and worse theology.

Jesus would use the comparison because everyone was familiar with the story. Therefore they would understand the theological reference. Just like we all understand that Hercules was a tremendously strong individual.

My daughter the other day referred to women in the military as "Buffy chicks". Now, we all know that Buffy is a fictional character. But that character is so well-known for strength and courage that you can reference this fictional character to indicate that the women in the military are strong and brave.

So, it was so well-known that the story of Jonah had him be in the whale that Jesus could use it as a simile for the Son of Man.

Now, in the event, was Jesus in the tomb three days and nights as you claim? NO! The body was buried Friday afternoon and the tomb was empty Sunday morning. That's only 2 nights and one full day.

So, by your own reasoning, since Jesus was not in the earth for 3 days and nights, then the story must be false because it doesn't match the Jonah story!

Good work, Ark Guy. In trying to make a debating point over a minor matter, you just falsified the resurrection!

Why would Jesus the second Adam compare himeself to a mythical being...the first Adam?
He didn't. Paul did. And the reason is that Adam stands for each and every one of us. Jesus is our Savior, not Adam's.

Seems like your cult like version of christianity is based upon allegorical stories anfd not real life....now that's scary.
Again, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Since the gospel account is clear that Jesus was not buried for 3 days and nights, your insistence that Jesus is true only because Jonah is true backfires.

I'm afraid your cult isn't based on the Bible at all. You deny the very stories that you claim you are defending. That is scary.

But don't worry. We won't let Christianity be destroyed by the erroneous views you advocate.

MAT 12:41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.

Hmm, why will the men of Nineveh stand up at the judgment with this generation...if their just allegorical?

The more you theo-evos proclaim the bible as allegorical, the more trouble you get into.

You might want to find another list.

Just for the record, your list contains many that are not christian.
Why find another list? Yes, many of the organizations are Jewish. But since Genesis belongs to both Judaism and Christianity, that is appropriate, don't you think? After all, Jews read the Torah in the original Hebrew, not a translation. So, if they agree it is not literal, then that should say something to you.

Do you think denominations official position is typically what the body believes?
Do you think it's not? Evidence, please.

Because one greater than Jonah is here. So, if in the story they recognized Johah as being from God, the living Ninevans will of course recognize Jesus as coming from God.

No trouble. This fits with the arguments we have been using. Jesus is using a well-known story to illustrate a point.

BTW, you haven't addressed the problem of that 3 day and 3 night thing, have you? You know, the one that gets literalists in trouble.

BTW, Ark Guy, we are not using allegory here. You overwork that word and use it way outside where it is supposed to be used.
