• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How you use Christianforums.

Pretty sure I was essentialsaltes there as well.
Hmmm. Not sure I ever came across you there. Were you there until the whole big conglomeration of Crosswalk, Christianity.com, Crown Financial and all of the minor Salem radio station forums went all-Facebook?

That sounds right. FB is not a good forum platform.

I prefer to engage in discussion in the Christian-only forums, but I do wonder into the open forums too. Jesus didn't call us to just witness to one another. That being said, I find it very encouraging that God has called so many non-believers to a place where they can hear His Word. Many have already been saved, more will follow.

I used to spend a lot of time here when I was Christian many years ago. I read way more than I post and I read anything of interest to me. I enjoy discussion more than debate. Honestly, the Christians on these forms are an interesting group. That is all I will say.

Long ago I joined to participate in the Crevo debate and quickly found I enjoyed the vibe and varied personalities here. CF used to help keep me awake and mentally stimulated during rather uneventful 12 hour overnight shifts.

The culture has changed, many of my friends and foes have fallen by the wayside (though I have made new ones) and the open Crevo section is a sad, shadow of its former self, yet CF remains a daily destination for me.

Good thing you weren't around to witness the old General Apologetics subforum.

For Christians: There are sections of the forum that are Christian only that are redundant with the forums open to all, specifically the ethics and morality forum. What motivates you to post in the open areas of the forum? Do you ever feel any benefit from non-Christian posts or posters? Has your view of non-Christians changed, for better or worse?
At this stage of my life, I'm not much interested in debate; maybe I've seen too many religious debates that generated hostile emotions without generating much insight into truth.

But I do monitor some of the Outreach forums -- Christianity and World Religions, Exploring Christianity, and Struggles by Non-Christians, as well as Looking for a Church. I try to give helpful advice when I can, or explanations of Christian concepts to those who ask.

I also try to defend other faiths (most often, Islam and atheism) when they are slandered by misinformed Christians. It seems a kind of moral duty.

I'm currently reading a really excellent book on the history of Islamic extremism that was recommended to me by a Muslim CF poster, so, yes, sometimes I do learn from exchanges with non-Christian CF members.

Funny, I was going to write the same thing.

The only thing I would add is I finally figured out I was an Atheist here.

For this relative newcomer: What is Crevo? Is it a subforum I haven't found yet?
Crevo = creation & evolution forum.

It is under the physical & life sciences forum.

I like discussing and debating issues with a variety of perspectives, and I've found that only exists in the open areas of the forum.
I agree.

In fact, I find it rather lame when threads about certain groups, such as Muslims or Atheists, are deliberately posted in areas where people from those groups can't post. It therefore carries the potential for straw-men to roam free, unquestioned in a hive-minded echo-chamber of agreement against those groups.

The open areas are great for those who have no need for such "safe spaces", who are unafraid of having their beliefs challenged. I have found more opportunity for growth therein, personally.
