How tolerant are you of other religions?

I do not tolerate Bob Jones University, Jack Chick publications, or anyone who comes with "religion" to my front door.

I focus most of my studies on Judaism/Islam/Christianity... but I kind have stopped there.

I tolerate all faiths except for those who believe that the holocaust actually took place. I have zero tolerance for their teaching that over 6 million Jews were sentenced to torture and death (death camps).

I am pretty sure that Squeeze would have a problem with me using offensive language about gays or muslims or some other minority. However, when Squeeze is on a Christian website, Squeeze decides to use the Lord's name in vain. This is the hypocricy shown by many whose prime moral code is tolerance.

I have a feeling that if I started making fun of Allah, or wiccans or any other religious being or idea, Squeeze would be one of the first to jump on my case for it. Double standard? Nah.

I voted that I tolerate people believing anything at all. I don't agree with everything that is in the religion that they espouse, but I love them as human beings.

That vote was not entirely accurate, though. You see, I don't just tolerate people. Because people were not meant to merely be tolerated. I love people believing anything at all, since people are meant to be loved.

Love, not tolerance, is what we must strive for.

Some of the responses on this thread show we have quite a lot of work to do!

Well, I believe in Christ and I don't believe that He sentences people to hell. Instead, He rescues them from hell. You aren't talking about the same God that I believe in and I am a christian.

You say, "He rescues them from hell". Who made hell? Who sends people to hell? God! The Bible says so.

Since there seem to be people of all different faiths and ideas on this chat, how tolerant are we of one another? Do you find it difficult or easy to talk to others who differ in opinion from you? What do you want those of other faiths to know about you when interacting with you?

I am not a christian but have many christian friends, and family. I love them with all of my heart, and we can discuss our beliefs without either one of us getting "angry" or judging the other. Obviously I believe they are wrong, and they believe I am wrong.....but since it isn't somethign that can be proven, it would be insane to get angry at them for it. The only time I get angry, is when there are those who use the bible to defend their biggotry and hatred. I have enough respect for the fatih to feel sorry for the "good" christians who are drug down by the "bad" ones.

No, I am just showing that it is unreasonable to disregard something as true just because it is unpleasant. Someone had just said that they didn't tolerate the belief that people will be tortured in hell, implying that it was too bad to believe.

Perhaps some see it as being too inconsistent with a loving god to believe. This is not an unreasonable position, even though it may be at odds with some religious views.

Aaron11, I didn't say I believed eternal hell to be untrue just because I don't like it. This I know is a logical fallacy of wishful thinking. The reason I believe hell (as well as heaven) is untrue is that there is no evidence for such things (no evidence for life after death at all). What grieves me is that so many people (Christians and Muslims) believe that the majority of mankind are going to spend their eternity in a torture chamber. This is a heartless attitude which is the opposite of compassion towards fellow man. And who can praise a God who does such a thing? This isn't the thing to do, no matter how you slice it.

Being banned, Zephyr will not be responding. In some of his statement, one could point out that what he denied was not so much right and wrong, as adjectives tied to those judgements (absolute, known with certainty, etc.). Such a relativism could withstand the obvious objections you raise. Zephyr didn't stick to that though; some of his claims are genuinely inconsistent.
