If I remember correctly Judaism makes up less that 2 or 3% of world believers and yes they are in a very hostile situation right now in Israel but how does that change anything??mala said:thats because christians make up the largest group
i would say that jewish people feel more hatred percentage wise than christians do
Wiccans are a very small modern group, Im not saying that they dont recieve some form or that its not serious but their obviously not the most in the world. In the US there are more Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Angnostics and Atheists than there are Wiccans.and Wiccans suffer the most hate % out of other groups.
oh wait... that's NOT what this thread was about... it was about discussing tolerance and asking how tolerant you, as an individual, were. not how you feel a group to be singled out for unjust treatment.
Well... now... wouldn't you know it?
i've got plenty of reports of Christians burning down Buddhist temples, encouring their "flock" to attack Buddhist monks and nuns on sight to prevent their "evil spell" (actually a wonderful mantra of joy, blessing and hope) from killing them.
i've got plenty of reports of Muslims burning down Buddhist temples, forcing the populace to convert or have their families killed. whole muslim villages going on rampages to 'revenge' a perceived wrong.
TwinCrier said:Tolerance is such a modern buzzword. How is it people who aren't Christians can believe whatever they like and they are called 'enlightened' and 'tolerant', but Christians who have our own beliefs and opinions are called hate-mongers, bigots, racists, homophobes, whatever you may say. I don't hate anyone. Freedom of expression goes both ways, but to demand that others endure YOUR beliefs is the epitome of intolerance. I once heard someone say that those who are intolerant don't deserve tolerance. What hypocrisy!
i would imagine that wiccans recieve a lot of intolerance, since their religion is widely misunderstood and misinterpreted. in america there is also a lot of anti-muslim sentiment. i think most of it comes from misunderstanding and from ignorant generalizations, which of course is a problem for everyone. all religions have faced some adversity, no doubt.I would say that Jewish people and Wiccans suffer the most hate % out of other groups.

feral said:do you find something wrong with tolerance? i think that in the case of religion, it means that you accept the fact that other believe differently then you, and you don't try to prohibit that.
feral said:i for one can accept people believing nearly anything. i don't have to agree but i don't deny them the right. i also voted that i could find merit in many religions without believing in them

Define tolerance.
Here is the definition that I got from Webster's
-The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others.
There are definetly some beliefs and practices that I have no respect for. Does this mean that I will kill them? No. Will I torture them until they confess Jesus Christ? No. Would I tell them that I have no respect for their belief? Sure.
So, do I tolerate their beliefs? Somewhat.
mala said:then you shouldnt feel insulted if they were to reply back that they have no respect for your religion or any religion either
ahhhh what a wonderful world we live in![]()
I don't usually go in for "chick flicks" but this one sounds interesting.radorth said:A Walk to Remember is a film with Mandy Moore, made a couple of years ago about a young Christian woman and an unbelieving jock who pair up after he sees what it really means to be a Christian. He is drawn to her depth of character and perhaps her disinterest in dating the school jock, whom she sees for what he is- a lost person who shows some signs of caring about truth and justice. (He gets after some people who are abusive toward her, and she opens the door a bit). Unfortunately, she has a terminal illness, although he marries her anyway. (Keep a bucket and a box of Kleenex handy if you see it or rent it)
