Just wondering

Since there seem to be people of all different faiths and ideas on this chat, how tolerant are we of one another? Do you find it difficult or easy to talk to others who differ in opinion from you? What do you want those of other faiths to know about you when interacting with you?
I am pretty tolerant of others although honestly I have to say that I do have a problem with those who try to ram their beliefs down my throat or try to make me or others feel less than because they don't feel the same way.

I find it easy to talk to some and hard to talk to others. I ask a lot of questions to provoke thought. Not only in myself but in others so that I may find out what they are thinking or where they are coming from. Some people take this in a negative way even though my motives are not negative. I am only seeking more knowledge.

As far as how to deal with me I am a very independently minded person. If you give me the facts to prove to me that I am wrong in my belief system then I will gladly listen and rethink what I believe myself. I don't like ignorance in myself. And it would be incredibly ignorant of me to discount something someone said to me if it was proven to be true. I like to be provoked to thought and if I am wrong I will readily admit it. It takes a strong person to admit when they are wrong, I firmly believe this.

Those are the things that I would like others to know.

Blessings,

I think there is merit in most religions. In this day and age I see no need for animal sacrifice or blood rituals so I'm not fond of religions that still do this. Yes I know the ancient Hebrews did both but IMO in this day and age the actual use of blood and animal sacrifice is not needed. I think we live in an age where symbolism is a great way to shift that pratice. Use red dye instead of blood or bread instead of a chicken etc. I think the belief is what should be important in peoples religions. Outside of these practices I am totally fine with all religions except Satanism. People choose to worship the nemisis of God. Tells me a lot about the state of their hearts :o

Hi, Shekinah. I'm wondering, do you believe the Bible is the infallible word of God? I see a cross next to your name and I'm wondering what it represents in your religion.

St. Francis said " preach the gospel at all times , if necessary , use words "
Paul said " we are an open book to be read by all men "
Jesus said " we are the salt and light of the world "

there should be some thing about our love , compassion , forgiveness ,
witness -- sincere , honest , moral ... that brings others to us or
causes us to reach out to others ...

that we would think enough about them to make a friend , to demonstrate
our love for them as a " future child of God " , that at some point ,
they seek to become a child of God .... because of the Jesus they
see in you and me ...

I tolerate people, not "religions". :)
I agree with Rick. People we must love, but holding to Him who said: "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by Me". The Lord Jesus did not say He was "a" way, or that He was "a" truth, but that He was "the" way and "the" truth.

If we love people, we will want the best for them. That means that if we have come to know the Lord Jesus as our Saviour, we will want to share Him with others. Tolerance is not saying everything is all right, and that every religion is OK, but being ready to suffer to take the known Truth to others, and certainly having patience with every one. As God had patience with us, and as Christ Jesus died for us while we were yet enemies of His (Romans 5:10). Tolerance was the wonderful words of the Lord Jesus while He was being nailed to the cross: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34). But this tolerance did not mean approval of their views. It meant forbearance in love, so that they might have a chance to repent.

And so with us. Tolerance will mean gentleness, and being willing to discuss wrong opinions by exposing people to the Word of God. And a willingness to suffer for the sake of the truth, but not to make other people suffer because they are wrong. The Lord is in control of all, and we must be willing tools in His hands.

Best to all,

doulos

I have better things to do then to be "intolerant" of other faiths. If you believe in God, you're on the right track. I pray that the Lord will guide them to the fullness of Christ, but smashing people over the head with the Bible or my faith will not accomplish that goal.

Well, it's a good point: smashing people over the head with Bible is rarely perceived as love. Maybe if we show tolerance for the person, as someone else was saying, that would be a positive thing; but If their religion endangers them, maybe we'd need to love them without accepting the false religion. Love them, and still gently bring them to the truth. Love God first, and through that love them.
