  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How to control your feelings, especially at work?

Do you control them or not? If any person does irritate you so much, would you tell it to her-him face to face or would shout it out?

People in nowaday are sooooooo nervous and anxious about everything that they need to control themselves so much! We waste our nerves and even time on trifles, split hairs and feel so depressed after it... It's so sad..

How to fight with it???

What about you? How d'you feel yourself next to person who annoys you?

Hi Black Cat!

I find that if a person truly annoys me I go off and pray sincerely for them. I find that when I do that, I am no longer able to be annoyed or irritated by them.

Also, remember that it is we who are irritated. We can control our reaction to the person easier than we can control their behavior! :)

I can only remember being in this situation once when I was working. I didn't plan for it to happen but one day I found myself agreeing with this person on some topic and said so publicly. After that she considered me a friend and things changed! She no longer did things to annoy me since she didn't want to **** me off and loose me as a potential ally.

I don't know if that would work in every situation or if I could pull it off again even if I tried. It was just fortunate for me that it worked that one time.

Ha, this reminds me of a great description. At a course a guy said to me he was waiting at a counter to be served. A lady walked up and the person serving skipped my man and went to the lady. His response...
Excuse me, but is this lady a more important customer to you than I am?

Not aggressive, not complaining, merely asking the obvious question.

Leave. If you suspect that you won't be able to control yourself, leave.

I don't mean leave the job. That usually isn't feasable. Go to the bathroom, or take a smoke break, and think about what should happen when you go back inside. Think about the consequences of your actions.

And about controlling yourself all of the time, I think that it's important to have friends that will allow you to be who you are, even if sometimes you slip up.

Everything has to do with balance. Balance is the most important concept to understand if you ever plan on surviving in this world or doing anything. You must be able to understand when it is appropiate to tell someone how they rub you the wrong way, but you must also make it a point to tell them when they rub you...well you get the idea. To let loose your emotions though, is irresponsible and and thoughtless. And at the same time, there are situations where emotion is the only answer such as when Jesus yelled and tore up the merchants tables inside the temple. See? Balance. It comes from life experience and the understanding of your surroundings.

Namely practice and goal setting, coming up with a system to have yourself do something else to cool down, instead of sitting there just waiting to dishout. You may want to try letting people know that you are trying to become more patient, and that if you start losing it, that they can remind you to go cool down or something like that.

Of course prayer helps too.:) (personally, a lot)

So true, I lacked that balance, took everything in, then blew up on someone at work.......balance, very good answer.
