• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi, I have been trying to stop self harming for 2 weeks now. Doesn't feel like i've stopped though, cause all i have done is think about it.
My friends kep saying that i have to use God's strength.
But how are we supposed to do this?
At the moment, i just keep putting myself off, each night, if i feel tempted I'll wait til I'm about to do it, then something pings in my head and i remember to call my friend. i suppose it's good i'm calling before i do it. but I just feel like it's an enevitablility that I'm going to cut again.
So if I can't do it on my strength, how do I use God strength?
Thanks

Scriptures! Scriptures! There is so much power in them.
I recommend:
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

That one has helped me a lot. Also check out the God's Little butterfly post. It's loaded w/ scriptures.

Hi, i struggle to recognise God's strength in my actions, i want to be able to use God's strength more, rather than aalwaysfailing trying to se my own.

What practical ways have people been able to use God's strength.
This would really help me, i desperately need to learn this.
Thanks :help:

Here is are verses that have always helped me.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 28:7.

Jesus loves you with an everlasting love. He does not want harm to come to you. When harming thoughts come to you, remember how much you are worth to God. (I had to come to this conclusion as well).

Give this over to God. He wants to take ALL our cares off of our shoulders.
