  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How to trust God? What does it mean?

For me, I find that the Fathers and Saints of the Church give us the best definition. As I read their lives, I see that trust in God makes them humble, not combative, especially when people are persecuting them or even stealing their meager possessions. Their behavior shows that in all circumstances, they know that God is good and He intends only good for them, even in situations which to the carnal mind look terrible. Their behavior comes from years (decades) of seeing God do all manner of good for them, which in turn increases their trust. They are not shaken by the things that happen because they look back upon God's faithfulness in other situations.

I believe this takes time to develop in us, as the carnal man within is prone to worry, distrust, and fear.

God is trustworthy. He is perfect, holy, loves everybody, patient, gentle, never betrays, luminous, caring.
In Proverbs 3:5-6, it says to trust in the Lord with all of our heart, lean not on our own understanding, in all our ways acknowledge Him, and He will make our paths straight. Our desire clouds our judgment so that we can’t be sure if something is truly good or if we just think that it is good because we desire it, so this is where we need to lean not on our own understanding and trust in the nature of who God is to correctly divide between what is true and false.
