  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Your home doesn't have to be perfectly clean in order for your kids to be happy and healthy. Obviously there should be a basic level of cleanliness, but having it spotless isn't necessary. Stressing out about that can actually do more harm than good.

I try to just take it one task at a time, and routines help. If you make it a habit to clean up some at the same time each day, it will become easier. I have a weekly cleaning schedule for things like laundry, vacuuming, and bathrooms, and beyond that I focus on one room at a time. If it's a little messy, toys strewn on the floor, a few dirty dishes in the sink, I don't beat myself up for it. My son would rather have quality time playing with me even if the dishes sit out for the night.

Great post. Here's a related story that's too good not to be true.

Noticing that his neighbor's yard was worn bare by his kids playing there a neighbor suggested that the man might have a nicer lawn if the kids didn't play there, to which the man replied, "I'm raising kids, not grass."

Have you heard of Flylady? Google it. It's basically a cleaning system/routine. But very, very manageable because she addresses how not to get overwhelmed by it all. It's why she created the program. She's a christian as well.

I was going to say something similar to this. :)

Developing new habits can take up to 3 weeks to keep. Eliminate one thing that stresses you out and replace it with a new habit. Also, assign age appropriate chores with your kids. It's amazing how even the smallest help can make a big difference!

I tried this once. I got SO many emails it was overwhelming! I spent more time trying to keep my inbox cleaned than getting any actual housework done! If she did a once a week email, it would be fine but I recall daily emails... alot of them. lol
