Hey guys.

(Don't worry this isn't an Ad)

I play Rythm guitar, and I want to get in a band.

The big problem is, I don't think my friends would want to play what I want to play.

How would you recommend I go about finding bandmembers, and what should we do for starters after that.

Just looking for advice, as I start this journey.

I've been trying to start a band for 9 years. :sigh:

The only surefire way is to be really attractive, and send a photo of yourself via an entertainment lawyer to the record companies. If your picture is attractive enough, they'll round you up a band, write your songs for you, and pay all your expenses.

Or you can just try finding a singer and doing a guitar/vocals thing at coffee houses. People will see you, and eventually try to join. Also go to coffee houses, and try to get people from other acts.

Put up fliers at guitar stores. List your musical interests, age, and note what level of resource-commitment you've made (i.e., have high-end gear and home studio; have decent guitar/amp and garage cleared out for practice; have equipment but its cheap/beginner gear and no place to practice).

It's never easy to start a band. There are a lot of things to consider. One being, how dedicated are you going to be to the band? Is it what you are doing with your life or is it a hobby that you will eventually give up when more real life issues start to take over? That's a very important question because it will be taken into consideration of the other band members. Once you figure this out, you can move to the next step of making or finding a band.

There are a few options you can take with this. The first would be, of course, making your own band. It's difficult in a few reasons. First being that you need to find people who are interested in the same style as you, second being you need to find people. ;) Third is you need to find people who you can work with. You can have 5 good musicians in a room and none of them able to work together because of difference of opinion on how things should be done. The best way to go about doing this is to post ads in music stores, churches, radio stations saying that: "I am looking to make a band and need the following musicians. We are of this style and some of our influeces inclide:" Put your contact info down, and there you go.

The other way is to join an existing band which is a little easier, but you will probably get no say at first on what gets done and how. The easiest ways to find bands are again, go to music shops or christian stores and check their post boards. Call other churches in the area and ask them as well.

There is also the option as mentioned before to contact an entertainment manager and send photos and demos, but in order to do that and actually see results, you have to be professional, plus have professional photos taken, ect.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help.

I guess my level of committment would be "Let's see what happens".

If it goes somewhere great, if not okay.

Ive been in 3 different bands in the last 4 months. The first one i played guitar, and it was a Rage Against the Machine cover band....the second one i played drums...it was s misfits...dogwood...nofx...rancid....minor threat...ish punk band....and then i was a screamer for a hardcore band. I never wanted to be in any of them...people would just keep asking me and id keep saying yes. I guess its easier to start a band depend on where you live
