Wow. That sound very enriching and very sad at the same time. I'm thankful you had a break through and I pray that healing continues.
Thanks!

Do you really want to ingrain in your child's mind that physical aggression is the correct and just way of righting a wrong? That inflicting pain on someone is a suitable response to something someone else deemed bad?

There are studies showing the risks of lasting mental health problems, and it isn't surprising.

My daughter is grown up now but I used various thing to discipline her as a child. She would be grounded, have items taken from her for a set time and also she got a spanking when I felt that was necessary which was often for being cheeky or answering me back. She kept going and yes I did pull her pants down and her bare bottom would get spanked over my knee. She has grown up to have manners & respect other people. I never used anything other than my hand but she did feel the sting.

I have a idea,

Dont spank them.

There are other effective ways to discipline, All a spanking does is tell the child how to be violent.

Yes I know the old tell of spare the rod spoil the child.

But is this not telling us to spare the rod? and to spoil the child?

Reverse it.

If you discipline your children in different ways they will still learn, and also learn how not to be violent.

Is this my opinion?

No, its a practiced proven fact. :groupray:

God bless you in your journey.

Here are a couple of studies that favor spanking:

Spanking makes kids perform better in school, helps them become more successful: study - NY Daily News

Evidence Favoring the Use of Disciplinary Spanking « GoodParent.org

Here is what the Bible says on this subject:

Proverbs 13:24: Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

Proverbs 23:13-14 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.

Proverbs 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

Hebrews 12:11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

We have to remember that "the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives." As we are reminded in Hebrews 12:6.

Spanking is bullying. You’re teaching your child that just because you’re bigger and stronger, that it’s ok to assault someone

Sounds like the essential lesson of government and law enforcement, to me.

As a dad of 4 kids I can testify that spanking works on teaching toddlers respect and manners. I have had teachers and other parents come up to me and tell me how good my children are compared to other children. It works if it's not out of anger but out of love. It must also be followed with a talk so they understand everything and they can say they are sorry. Today's society trying to get spanking out of the picture has shown a generation of entitlement and depression.

My 40-year-old son and 31-year-old daughter, who both got spanked as toddlers, agree with you.

Actually, I think my daughter was spanked only once.

My son, a bit more.

That seems to be a statement/worldview that is solely based on emotionalism that is void of any factual or scriptural backing.

my statement is factual enough. Scriptural dogmas are opinions not facts. I’ve got PTSD because my parents believed in spanking small children . I rarely spanked mine and the few times I did, I thought soon after that I could have handled it differently

welcome to CF

we have never spanked our child as spanking is punishment, not discipline
kids don't learn anything from spanking other than "it's ok to hit a person smaller than yourself"

there are many effective ways to discipline that teach a child
a completely unbiblical response.

I didn’t make it clear. I almost never spanked my kids unless they did something deliberately dangerous. I didn’t even spank them for running into the street. id run after them and make them hold my hand . I do consider spanking to be abuse. I was spanked about once a week from before I can remember until I was 15 when I literally kicked my father across the room to stop the abuse.my younger sister was beaten until she turned 21. After that age it’s assault on an adult. I was a quiet kid who was a bit of a nerd. I estimated that I got a minimum of over 600 beatings . My father was a perfectionist and a sadistic bully on top of it. I’ve got PTSD and when I was a teen I tried to kill myself. Don’t spank your kids. It’s not discipline
unbiblical post. The bible does say to abuse...but to correct.

If done right there are studies backing the use of spanking as I have stated in post #67 and as a parent of 4 I have seen it work when applied correctly. On CF and Christianity scriptures are facts, plus as I stated studies also have backed up the use of spanking.

the problem is that often people that resort to spanking which is punishment do it in anger and go overboard into abuse

there are so many good methods of discipline that teach
as well as parents modeling good behavior themselves as well as connection/attachment with your child that promotes cooperation

even Pastors preach "that passage" in the Old Testament is no longer valid as once Jesus came, the New Testament is about love

love your neighbor; LOVE your children
Solomon had more wisdom than any other natural man. The Holy Spirit had him tell parents to spank their children. You are suggesting you know better?

Child psychologists are saying spanking is harmful . I suppose they know more about what’s bad for children than a book character who might have been imaginary

so the people in the Bible are just imaginary? Why are you on a Christian site I wonder.

I’m a Christian why else.? I’m well aware that there’s very little verifiable evidence for people in the Bible . Even the creation story is more fairytale than an accurate history . These are dogmas . All dogmas are opinions . Opinions aren’t facts

Actually there is much biblical evidence and archaeologist have uncovered valuable evidence showing biblical people existed and events. But this is not the thread for this discussion. If you would like many articles on biblical events and people let me know.
