  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There's are some questions implicit in many posts here about "how to know".

How do I know if this person is really the best choice (or at least a very good choice) for me?

How do I know if this person will be able to get beyond some flaw, or if I'll be able to adapt to it well?

How do I know if I'm really ready to make the decision to get married?

How do I know if I'm mature enough / recovered enough / rational enough to make a sane decision?

What do y'all think?

Here's my 2 cents.

You have a certain 'peace' about the person.

How do I know if this person will be able to get beyond some flaw, or if I'll be able to adapt to it well?

If a person truely loves a person, they love them for who they are, as a person.....and should be able to communicate the truth to each other and work thru the "flaws".

I couldn't work thru my ex-bf's flaws, because he lied to me from the beginning.....if he was honest with me, I would've been able to.

How do I know if I'm really ready to make the decision to get married?

If a person has to question ready to get married, then they are NOT ready.

How do I know if I'm mature enough / recovered enough / rational enough to make a sane decision?

You feel at 'peace' about it......don't rush recovery from a past relationship just to be in a relationship with someone else......sometimes it's better to be alone and do your own thing for a bit.

What do y'all think?

I've been single off and on from my divorce for 5 years. I'm not looking for anyone......I LOVE my life and I trust that when God is ready He will have that certain guy 'cross my path'. And that will will need to live within 10 miles of me. ^_^ (but God knows that)

You can never 100% know these answers. You just have to use your head and be cautious and hope for the best. As for knowing if they are a good choice for you, that is easier. Do you share many of the same interests? Are you into several things and she is just not that into things other than work, friends, and TV? (This matters!) Are you an introvert and she an extrovert, and if so, is the difference so substantial that would create a clash? Is their chemistry sexually? Are you compatible intellectually? Have you had an argument and found you both are able to resolve it easily because of your personalities meshing well? It's important to know her family too and know if you like them, and if she likes yours. Same religion and similar values?

The second question is why I stress longer engagements to be sure. You know the person after awhile and what you can handle.

If you are unsure about getting married yet this is tough, as most everyone gets cold feet, even if they feel sure. No one is ever completely ready for a huge change, but typically where your heart is leading you is the right place and right time.
