• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think over time you learn to realize that your emotions and feelings lie to you, and that you just can't trust yourself. That's been the trick for me, realizing that just because I don't feel saved, or just because I feel fearful of something happening doesn't mean that I am not saved or that there is even a real danger of the bad things happening. It's something that has been hard for me, but I can tell you that if you ask the Lord for that to happen in your life I believe He will teach you.

Hi there my dear sweet brother I have OCD too, my OCD has been bothering me again so I decided instead of giving in to the stupid OCD I did some research on the matter. PLEASE NOTE I am NOT a therapist, the reason for me doing this research is that I can not afford a doctor right now and SS is taking their time with my case so I have no money to see one. Anyway I found this terrific article that I thought that you may want to read. There are some points that may be confusing that I would ask your therapist or a counselor about. IF and WHEN I get approved of SS I am going to start seeing a counselor cause I have a dear sweet loving sister who told me that they pay for it for her. Anyway, here is that article. It is good stuff: http://www.ocdchicago.org/images/uploads/pdf/EP05.pdf
I will pray for my dear brother, I HATE OCD, it truly breaks my heart to hear anyone suffer from this condition, really it does! ((((((((((BIG HUGS)))))))))))))

What I have learned is that when the thoughts first come in, do not stress out. It is easy to me like "They are back, I am weak, and my day will be ruined"

Then, we give so much power to these OCD thoughts and they start to rule our lives. We fear having them, so we keep checking our feelings.

In my experience, what has helped me is reading God's word to learn more about His character. OCD will lie to us about who God is, so knowing truth helps to fight these thoughts. Then I try to line up my thoughts and emotions to God's character. I say to myself, well, God is faithful and good so this must be a lie.

When OCD kicks in, acknowldge the thoughts. Pray about it. and speak truth to yourself. This will pass.

"He sent from on high, he took me;
He drew me out of many waters" Psalm 18:16

Pray over this verse, for the Lord to rescue you. HE ALWAYS DOES!

Hello,

As a previous post stated, the trick is to not fight the thoughts. Just acknowledge them as you would a car alarm.

Please realize you are not your OCD. Those thoughts are your OCD sending you wrong messages.

Just as you tend to ignore a car alarm that keeps going off, so too will you learn to ignore your thoughts even though you accept they are there.

Try to focus on something else and you’ll see that over time your thoughts lose power.

It’s not easy at first but the more you do it, the easier it gets.

If you’re interested, I wrote a blog about this topic on my site. Perhaps it can be of some help.

Please also remember that God is Love. Odds are, the thoughts you are having are not born from Love and therefore, from Him. [/font]

Many Blessings,
Coach John
