What helped me was some good preaching that my old nature died and repentance and some deliverance. I quit smoking and I couldn't stop, I didn't even want to, but I said: here You have my will, You do it.
Get desperate and cry out to God like Paul in Romans 7 and He will help you and you can be lead by the Spirit.

You overcome sin (among other things) thru faith and obedience to the Word of God.

Jesus said if you continue in my word then you shall be my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32) Free from what? He's talking about the power of indwelling sin. As a Christian the victory has been won by Jesus on the cross and at the resurrection. That's the penalty of it all. Now you must overcome the power of it all by working out your own salvation with fear and trembling. The choice is yours. I have no earthly clue what you're struggle is, but I'm going to throw out there the sin of pornography for example. What does the Bible say a person must do if something keeps offending them. That's right. Cut it off and cast it away from them. The price is not logging on to the internet much anymore, but it's worth it to stay clean and pure before the Lord and to have fellowship with Him! My advice to people like that is to be obedient and watch what God will do in and thru their lives.

You might need to find a chaplain to talk to. Without knowing the sin it would be hard to give advice as to how to quit doing it.

If possible, I recommend putting more time and effort into other things. That way, you'll have less energy for what's tempting you. Like if you're eating too much, it can be helpful to drink a little extra water instead of nachos. Also, you might want to give yourself permission to be human. Nobody's perfect, but putting less pressure on yourself may actually make the temptation less tempting.

If possible, flee from it. Run away from it as fast and as far away as you can and restrain yourself from looking back at it. Because when you start looking or thinking about it, the cycle starts over again.

And if you feel the you have hit the bottom of the pit and can't pull yourself out, to ask God to literally pull you out of the pit Himself, because you will never be able to do it yourself.

Also the prayers by the brothers and sisters in Christ help.
