I just started to listen to the U2 after their Greatest Hits album came out. I figured I'd pick it up. My favorites were "End of the World", "Hold me, Thrill Me", Beautiful Day, and the soundtrack song from Gangs of New York(I do wish they had Elevation on there too). With these songs in mind, do you think I'd like the new album?

You'll love it! They change and get better after each album...

I recommend you download "Fast cars" from somewhere as it is a new b-side. It sounds alot like 90's U2.

I haven't been on these forums in ages... ^_^

I can respect your opinion...:) but if the only U2 you've heard is HtDaAB, I strongly urge you to check out one of their older albums...perhaps: October, Rattle and Hum, Achtung Baby, or Joshua Tree.

I like this album alot, as did the last one. But my all-time favorite U2 album is a tie between October and Joshua Tree.

I totally respect your opinion, but I'm still very biased... :)
IMO Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are the two must listen to U2 albums! Defining albums indeed!

Yeah!!! Vertigo is like awesome! I'd have to say, from the 5 songs I've heard off "How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb," Vertigo is like one of the best! ;) I liked their older music...but this album is great...from what I've heard so far at least! :D

U2 has had a hard time picking up the peices since Zooropa came out. No offense, but the 90's was the time--that U2 went down somewhere different- and most of the fans were in the left field--wondering what in the world was going on. I think with the release of AYCLB-U2 came back and regained it's momentum lost from Auchtung Baby and Joshua Tree. I believe this album kicks everything back into high gear. I am sorry, I love this album more than the previous one. This one has a string of listenable songs, catchy choruses, and it sounds like one of the older albums. Minus-Vertigo...Vertigo reflects 90's U2 more--than the other parts of the album.

I am still gonna' say it... buy the album- there is no dissapointment at all.

From the very first listen- I knew this album was special. I have listened to it over 15 times these last few days already--lol... I can say my top 5 favorite songs are:
1) City of Blinding Lights
2) Vertigo
3) Love And Peace
4) Sometimes You Can't Make it on your own
5) One Step Closer

Just one thing I can't help but wonder...

Alot of the "old" U2 is classic...Gloria, I Will Follow, Mysterious Ways, Where the Streets Have No Name, Still Haven't Found...., With or Without You. You get the picture.

Do any of y'all think that these recent albums will produce songs that will be considered classics in 15-20 years?

I believe the best shot for a U2 classic is "Beautiful Day"-- It's way too early to tell if any of these songs will be described as classic- it's way too early to tell. "Vertigo" to me, is like the same way "Desire" is to The Unforgettable Fire. I believe "The City of Blinding Lights" has create potential to be a classic among U2 fans-but that's because that's my favorite song... it may not be anyone elses.

Hmmmm...yeah, I guess you could, sis - but IMHO R&H only has a few highlights, especially the stirring version of I Still Haven't found featuring thta gospel choir. And ATYCLB is great too! But most of my fave U2 songs come from Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, so that's why I have such an affinity with them

I love City of Blinding Lights too.... as well as Between a Man and a Woman. I don't know what everyone else thinks of it, but I think its beautiful. One Step Closer grew on me. I could go on forever.... the more I listen to this album, the more and more I love each and every song.

Arggghhh!

You don't know how hard it is for me to be patient and not run out and buy this NOW!!! But I can't because it, along with the EE of Return of the King, has to wait for Christmas, because that's what my sons are getting for me.

This is so hard!!!

I couldn't resist the temptation to not wait until Christmas, but I guarantee you that it's well worth the wait
