  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My all-time favorite is the one where he insists that even if the hosts of heaven should contradict him, we should believe him anyway.
Did Paul say that? I like it. What chapter is it?

I think what Paul meant was that if the scientific evidence contradicts God's word we should always believe God's word because scientific evidence can be deceiving, especially when viewed through the eyes of fallible human scientists who are always changing their failed theories.

I noticed you still hadn't addressed that whole "Big Bang myth" thing...

Stupid fallible human science, with its learning and self correcting abilities.

No it isn't.
As a Christian I don't need to believe I evolved from ape, and neither did the biblical authors. Evolution theory is not relevant to the Christian's salvation and is therefore meaningless in that regard.

The Big Bang myth has been addressed by many scientists and shown to be false. All that is left now is for it to be ignored. It's a dead theory that is given the false appearance of life by its dark, invisible, undetectable gods of the gaps.
Stupid fallible human science, with its learning and self correcting abilities.
Only those who are consistently wrong needs to be consistently corrected.

Of course you don't. The Biblical authors didn't know about evolution or heritable changes in a population. At least not the changes as defined.

Evolution is defined as:

Evolution is a process that results in heritable changes in a population spread over many generations. or

"In fact, evolution can be precisely defined as any change in the frequency of alleles within a gene pool from one generation to the next."

Ah. So, specifically, who authored the Gospels?
God did it.

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God...no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." (2 Tim 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21).

that last sentence could apply to you as well. I don't think it's a very good argument.

Do you have an explanation for the CMB that doesn't include the Big Bang? I'm really genuinely curious here. The only explanations I've heard for it refer to the big bang, and the CMB certainly seems consistent with that theory.

edit: I've found alternatives, and they are outside my current expertise.

Actually Hubble showed that the universe is expanding. The theory goes back to In the 12th century, the exalted Kabbalist, Rabbi Moses Maimonides. Kabbalism is said to be a part of the oral traditions that goes back to Moses in the Bible. Their tradition was the universe started out the size of a mustard seed.

Actually Hubble showed that the universe is expanding.
Hubble confirmed what others already knew:

Job 26:7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

Psalm 104:2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:

Isaiah 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

Zechariah 12:1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

It's just that Hubble, like a good modern-day scientist would, took the credit; instead of giving God the credit.

Didn't the Qur'an predict the same things? (such as an expanding universe and the earth being round)

I may be wrong, but God isn't.

"Let God be true, and every man a liar." (Rom 3:4).
Yes, and God is made of Spaghetti and quite fond of pirates. You should adopt his ways, lest you run astray.

This site says yes.
Good for that site.
There are many more so called "predictions" made by the bible, Qur'an, and most every holy book.
Only, in the Bible, it's not a "prediction" -- it is a statement of fact.
The reason you disbelieve their prophecies is much the same reason why I disbelieve yours.
Not so fast -- you have no idea why I 'disbelieve their prophecies'.

As I have pointed out before, the Scriptures were completed in 96 AD; thus anything after that -- including the Koran -- is not Scripture.

In addition, I also pointed out that Mohammad tried to convince the Christians in his time that he was a prophet of God -- and it didn't work.

When the Christians, who knew their Bibles, accused him of being a false prophet, he had them put to death.

This is why Mohammad was favorable to Christians at first, but later persecuted them.

I know my Bible well enough to know that Mohammad and Joseph Smith and anyone else who professes to be a prophet are either lying or deceived.
