How serious is soldiership?

Soldiership, like marriage should not be entered into lightly.
Like baptism, you are walking into death, death of self interest. And like resurrection you are walking in His life.
There is nothing wrong with being an adherent untill ready to take the next step.

Indeed, but by ther same token, if you genuinely feel called to soldiership, then that call shuold be heeded.

I don';t believe soldiership is ever entered into lightly. That is the purpose of soldiership classes.

One difficulty can be that the person entering into soldiership comes to take it very seriously while the army then no longer trains, mentors or particularly takes an interest in how you pursue your covenanted life.

So you can find that once the crumbs are swept away from the cake after the enrolment ceremony, you are left sitting around doing nothing for years, not mentored, trained etc and not helped to develop a sense of vocation for your lay ministry, whatever it is. I suggest you focus on preparing yourself for what happens next and expect to have to do it in a self-motivated and self-directed way. I don't mean to sound discouraging, I'm just trying to be realistic. I've seen soldiers left sitting around frustrated and discouraged in five corps out of six I've seen so far.

That is sad because I could use 10 new committed soldiers tomorrow in my Corps. I am the Sgt. Major of the corps.

Can it be that some Officers have a problem delegating?

That is definitely part of it. All sorts of power and control issues, insecurities, lack of training for soldiers and trust issues everywhere.

I believe there are ways forward, it just needs patience, hard work and lots of imagination.

I'm actually posting again on this forum. Yeah I'd struggled a bit in recent months with this whole thing, but I've been taking the classes recently so that's cool. I don't drink anymore whatsoever, that was one of a list of things which I had to get right and I'm good on that so that's cool. I've got a few good mates around me and they encourage me a lot so it's great...I'll keep you guys posted on how I'm going!

I was taking Adherancy classes but I ran into all sorts of personal problems like my vehicle giving out, summer vacations and birthday parties I just couldn't get out of. Then I felt so guilty about missing a couple of classes and a few Sundays I have stopped going. I feel like a deadbeat. I want to be a Soldier too but our church requires adherancy first. I know deep in my heart that this is meant for me. Please let me know how you are doing, I would love to hear!

no I won't be at unlimited as it is just too difficult to get there and if Evangelina is having a bad day health wise then I need to look after her and bubs. We are still trying to get things organised here. Half the lounge room still has boxes piled up on the floor. We have about thirty boxes of books. We'll wait till we have the pool table set up before we send an invite!
