"The two missiles struck a busy street in the city centre, damaging residential buildings, an educational facility and civilian vehicles, as people were out celebrating Palm Sunday, a major religious holiday in Ukraine." "The attack, on Palm Sunday and at the start of Holy Week, continues a devastating pattern of similar assaults on Ukrainian cities and towns in recent weeks, resulting in civilian casualties and large-scale destruction,” he said. The Secretary-General underlined that attacks against civilians and civilian objects are prohibited under international humanitarian law and must end immediately. Mr. Guterres renewed his call for a durable ceasefire in Ukraine."

How is this possible? Putin is a good Christian. Let's hope that some of the loyal Russian propaganda specialists come and defend this.

I think Putin is some kind of Eastern Orthodox religion isn't he?

Shall we call everyone in the Eastern Orthodox religion non-Christian to appease the bloodlust of the far left?

Russia, a nation, is at war.

I heard stories that during WW1 or two in the night of Christmas Eve one man from his war trench stood up and began singing silent night...

It's actually a nice story, the Christmas truce.

But it was the soldiers on both sides that night that stopped fighting for a day,. Not the generals of war, and the war continued the following day.

I'm fairly certain there's been many a war occuring on Palm Sunday, it's the more minor religious holidays occasions.... Christmas and Easter are different, Easter especially.

But I'm not going to criticize Putin for being Orthodox... That's kind of rude, I don't know this faith to judge it. All I know is that it's a different belief system.

As for the rest, outside of one night on Christmas in a WW, in one particular battle, I don't think they ever stop war for holidays, do they?

That's an interesting way to spin things against the "far left" - concern over an autocrat bombing a city constitutes "blood lust".

Also interesting is the insinuation that our resident machine gun-toting satirical Navy officer is on the "far left."

The Right is so far right now that literally anyone that disagrees with them on any facet of their ideology is "The Left."

I have leaned left before. And there are machine gun toting people on the left as well.

I suppose I would characterize myself as a General Franco type, clearly on the right, support eliminating opponents and religious authority oppressing free thought, but near the end give in and allow a corrupt constitutional monarchy to take over.

In Eastern Christian churches, Palm Sunday doesn't have the somber tone it does in the West, where many churches read the Passion narrative.. In Eastern Christian churches, it is a break within the penitential season of Great Lent, where Jesus has a triumphal entry and is heralded as the Davidic King. In Ukraine, instead of palms being used, willows and branches are brought to church, blessed, and people hold them during the service.

I wouldn't expect Putin to respect the sanctity of such a day, though... given that he sees Orthodoxy as mostly being a tool of nationalism to advance his own country's interests, brainwash his citizens, and oppress other people.

Let’s keep in mind he grew up in a godless society. I think Putin respects religion only so much that it’s a useful tool for him to keep control of his people.

I think the criticism was his dropping missiles on innocent civilians.

If they choose to live in Ukraine under an oppressive globalist nazi dictatorship, can they really be innocent?

That is a legacy of the KGB infiltrating the Moscow Patriarchate during Stalin's time- the church hierarchy mostly became a tool only to advance the state's interests. Patriarch Kiril is a former KGB man through and through. And as Putin has said in truth, "There is no such thing as a former KGB man".

That's not to say that something of Christianity hasn't been kept alive in Russia, it has... but it's mostly been passed along in isolated monasteries or pious mothers teaching their children a prayer rule in front of the family icons. The official church hierarchy, on the other hand, is badly compromised and sees Christianity in mostly utilitarian, nationalist terms. And if you speak out against it, you're in danger of falling out a window or off a bridge.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!!!??? ;)

There’s been complaints.

As a somewhat freshly minted already lapsed Catholic, I don't want to end up in an El Salvadorian monastery.

Wait, if anyone "complains" about our Judaic members, shouldn't they be reported for antisemitism and deported? //S//

No, not Jewish anymore.

Complaints against a person are not against the religion, especially if not in a religious setting. And knowing the posting style of said poster, I'm surprised that it took so long.
