They get placed in Paradise, Abraham's bosom, so long as they show their faith in God by obeying what he commanded them to do.

Then Jesus will preach to them in Paradise and they will get saved when they accept him as their Messiah.

Jesus told the thief that he would be with him in paradise (the restored earth).

My understanding is that they were saved, by God's grace, through faith in God. Jesus's atoning death did not just apply to the people who came during or after His death, but also before. It wipes away the sins of the world. Past, present, and future. Those who believed in God, back then, had their faith credited as righteousness. (Genesis 15:6.)

Now, what about people who never heard God's laws? Well, read Romans 5:13. It implies to me that, since there was no law in the world, no one was held accountable for their sins. Perhaps this applies to people who have never heard the law preached before? Also perhaps it applies to those who have never heard of Jesus, but.. well, It's hard to say. The judgement of the ignorant is totally in God's hands, and how He will decide to judge them will be unknown to us, as His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9.)

That said, there will be a greater condemnation on judgement day for people who hear the gospel, and don't repent, versus people who have never heard. Read Matthew 11, Luke 10.

Hi the new testament in 3 places notes Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. So we see salvation has always been by faith which is accounted for righteousness. One already mentioned Abraham's bosom which Jesus told of Lazarus and the rich man in the grave. When we get to Rev 5 we see a multitude in heaven singing to Jesus as he took the scroll, Worthy is the lamb to take the scroll and open the seals for He has redeemed us out of every tribe tongue kindred and nation and we shall reign with Him upon the earth.
So you see all who are righteous are by faith. All who are redeemed are by the blood of the lamb. The law and the sacrifices were prophetic models of what was to come and without faith those sacrifices did not and could not save you. When Jesus said it is finished it can be translated paid in full. This is when Jesus descended into Abraham's bosom and led captivity free.

They followed the Law...including atonements for sin with the blood of bulls and goats.

They were given the same conscience as every one else.
Murder is wrong, theft is wrong, etc.

Not under the Law of Moses, or without any Law at all.

Jesus did not go to hades to teach or release anyone.
By then it would be too late for them to "show their works unto repentance".
They all had the prophets speaking by the Spirit of God to teach them in their own times.

They al had their own consciences to guide them.
God knows who is, or isn't, after His own mind.
But people outside of Christ, whether Jew or Gentile, can't live in obedience to God without faith "that He is and is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him". (Heb 11:6)

ephesians 2:11-12, Paul explains

11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

God is powerful enough and Loving enough to save any and all people. The Old Testament is flowing the linage of Christ and not all people, so we do not need to know how God handled non-Jews prior to Christ. God saves people by His grace.

No. Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sara, Isaac, Rahab, & Job were not Jewish. They're all saved.
And he [Abram] believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Gen 15:6 (KJV)
Everyone in all ages gets saved the same way; by faith.

Remember the Jews were God's chosen people he chose them from all the nations of the earth, and only entered in to a covenant relationship with them only.

They alone were His people.
