Anything more than zero is too many. A healthy diet (a biblical one) does not require supplementation. 90% of "health and nutrition" is based on fraudulent science and there is a lot of misinformation.

If you make sure that the foods you eat were sourced from real farmers, it provides all of the vitamins needed. The problem is most farmers are in debt to corporate and they set the rules. Biblical farming requires the field to be not farmed every 7 years, that refreshes the soil with nutrients.

You can take all the vitamins you want, if you don't know where your food comes from down to the granular details, it does not matter. You have to know where it is sourced from, how it is transported and handled, and on what it is stored and cooked.

Example: A "healthy" food could be sourced from a farm where the field was used previously as a landfill, the food could be transported in BPA containers, the food could be cooked in nonstick toxic coated sprayed cookingware.

This is, unfortunately, true. A nutritious "balanced diet" isn't necessarily that easy to find and definitely isn't cheap.

I would suggest that before you start on any supplements you ask your doctor to do a blood panel on your vitamin and mineral levels, and if any are low, then you can supplement them. Too much of certain vitamins will just get eliminated, and waste your money. Others, as has been noted, can do damage to your organs.

Maybe a good alternative would be to carry a mix of nuts, seeds, raisins as a pick me up snack. I buy a raw mix of almonds, peanuts, raisins, dates, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. There are a lot of nutrients there. Also drink lots of water.
I second doing blood work to check for deficiency.

Then there are people like me, who despite eating a good diet, still cannot absorb enough vitamins and have to take vitamins as prescriptions.

Sounds a good mixture. (And my wife really likes pumpkin..) I include a Vitamin D, which is supposed to have a lot in it.

The OP is good! Regarding calcium, I'd only take Calcium citrate about 200-250 mg a day - and in a separate meal.
I'd add Magnesium citrate at least 100 mg/day - in a separate meal.
Iron might be needed for women, not for men though.
Personally I also eat mangan - but a low dose. I split them.
I would take daily, not every other Week or every other day.
What You need to watch out about are these: Betacaroten, Vitamin A, some vitamin E-supplements have a too high dose. Be very careful with the dose if You take these.
if You are often feeling tired, add also zink about 15 mg/day.
I would not go with multi-vitamins.
Over here we have a store: Holland & Barrett that sells really cheap and they have very frequent sales.
I also take vitamin B 6, it might be good for You too!
I think multi-vitamin-B are unnecessary.
Vitamin C is unnecessary to eat regularly as a supplement, there are no added health-benefits from a really high daily intake.

Well stated.

The water soluble vitamins are lost in the urine, but the fat soluble vitamins, are stored in fat and can become toxic with high doses.

Most people who eat a balanced diet, don't need vitamin supplements.
