Yeah but the problem is that for some people it is hard to believe but yet there is a fear that hell might actually exist, and so this causes a huge problem and dilemma. I understand that.

Actually I don't know if this helps or not, but I will pass it on. Tell me what you think about it. I once shared with a counsellor (not knowing she was actually a Christian) that I was having huge problems believing in God and that I did not know what to do. She said to me that for herself she had decided that it could do no harm to believe and yet if she did not believe and there really was a God, the result would be horrible.

Not sure what any of you make of that. Would love to know. Not sure I have explained it very well either. Let me know if I haven't and I will try again.

What you are describing is Pascals wager. It wont work if you don't actually believe in Jesus and his promises as well. You still go to hell. All I know to to is throw myself to his mercy an say save me.

The problem here is in the motive. You don't shouldn't believe in God so you don't go to hell. You believe in God because you want to be with God now and for eternaty. James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss,

You can try other stuff to relieve your anxiety about past actions that have hurt others (sinning), but nothing will work. All your being asked to do is trust God enough to humbly accept His help to that point of humbly accepting God’s forgiveness. Christ going to the cross helps you to believe God would Love you enough to forgive.

I'm not the original poster but I am intrigued by what you have said here. Could you perhaps explain what you mean in further detail?

To the OP: I know the feeling! Fear of hell is not the ONLY reason I wish I could be a Christian, but it's part of it. Though I don't even believe in hell, I'm still afraid of it! (Sheesh, who wouldn't be?! Just because I don't believe in something doesn't mean it isn't real.)

Look at it this way. If you can believe in hell, why can't you believe in God? Believing in hell presumes that we are spiritual beings, that there is an afterlife. If that is the case, then clearly we are not mere products of natural evolution. And if that is true, Someone far greater than we had to set this in motion.

What then is the problem holding you back from acknowledging God?

I don't believe it is there either I just think what if hell is there. I have heard people say maybe believing in God is a mental illness because people believe in him and he existing isn't logical. How can he create things?

Ultimately belief is beyond our level of logic. But even at that level, which is more improbable: a Supreme Being creating everything, or everything simply coming to be out of nothing? There are no facile answers that appeal to our reasoning ability. Both positions rely on faith. But we are immersed in an academic bias against belief in God because our society has overestimated the capabilities of our own scientific prowess, and we often find an interior bias against belief in Him as well because we are afraid or simply unwilling to give up our personal sovereignty.

I myself believe in God and believe that Jesus died for our sins, like i have no problem saying it either, i understand that we are all sinners and that we deserve eternal damnation, and the only reason we can be forgiven of that is because Jesus died with all of our sins on him, the death was paid. But my main problem is that i am more worried about going to hell that i just cant seem to focus on the wanting to live with God.

So to answer your question, there are probably a lot of people who want to believe but are too worried about Hell to do so effectively(myself & others).

There are also probably a lot of people that want to believe but their fear of Hell is keeping them from believing at all.

I don't understand how people CAN'T? When you look at the world and everything in it, it's just way too complex. You hear all these scientists discovering thee most amazing attributes that we humans have.

Most people that haven't heard the Gospel or scientists that just don't want to believe it are just blind.

A lot of people for some reason think the big bang theory is the reason we are here and i just don't understand how people can believe that preposterous junk. How can everything in the universe come from the smallest point of an atom to an area size that we cant even explore completely. It can't! When you think of a bang, an explosion, most people don't think anything comes out of it that isn't destroyed. Bangs or explosions cause damage. If we came from an explosion there is no way we would be this stable. The only possible way is through help of a higher power. God himself! He has the ability to do such a thing. But God made all of this in steps not just all instantly.

That's what i don't get is how people think the idea of accident is possible. The amount of everything that is in the universe could now have just happened by "accident" if accident was the case then there would be a perfect enough chance that none of this would even exist.
