Thanks for everyone who's answered so far. I think it's great how many people here are open to the adoption/fostering idea. I've known a number of people who reject adoption by saying "Well, I could just never love a kid that wasn't biologically mine." On the other hand, I worked with a guy who intended to adopt one kid and he and his wife ended up with four because they decided not to split up the boy from his siblings.
Here's another question: do you think the size of family you grew up in has had any impact on how many children you want?

yeah. I have 5 brothers and sisters and I definitely don't want that many kids.

possibly... i only have one brother. its cool because we are close but there was always hat part of me wishing i had more siblings to play with as a child. but i think in the end i love kids and i think being a mother is a wonderful calling and i can't really picture a future without lots of kids in it.

I hve one child cant really imagine what it would be like to have to share my attention with other children but that may change when she starts school etc. And would love for her to have brother or sis or both. Don't mind which, when or how many. I have no desire to go through giving birth again but liked pregnancy. Hmm tricky!
I would consider adopting but am a single mum so don't really think thats right.
I'll just have to wait and see. Im in no hurry, I have my wonderfull girl and love giving her my all.

I grew up the same way. I love my brother, but I always wished for a bigger family.

Personally I've never wanted kids. However, if a husband wanted them and wasn't going to insist I perform the majority of child care functions, I'd work out a compromise. My bf quite enjoys kids...he says he'd like 5!!! He's always had lots of family members, finds it comforting and fun. Nooooo way would I go there. I hate the idea of pregnancy. 2 is my limit, physically. No más!

I always wanted to have a huge family, with a lot of kids. God had a different plan and has only allowed one of my seven pregnancies to result in my beautiful little boy. Since my divorce, I have prayed that the man God would have for me would come with a bunch of kids, kind of silly I guess, but even though I cannot have my own huge brood of kids, I still wanted to have many kids in my life to enjoy.
