When you teach children that they need to hold on to religious beliefs that are contradicted by mountains of facts, you are setting them up to fail, IMHO.

Loudmouth,

Your 'mountains of facts' need you to provide the evidence for these facts. Could they be associated with your agnosticism towards God and Scripture? I note you label yourself as an agnostic.

Why don't you share with us the facts about Jesus' life, death and resurrection? Facts and how you know they are facts?

This is a circular argument. "It's true because it say's it's true" is a fallacy. What evidence do you have?
Jesus confirmed scripture is true by raising from the dead. Proof positive. Our fathers saw Him risen. This is not a thread to call them liars.

Hindus talk to Krishna directly. Their story seems to contradict yours. I wonder who could be right? You both could be wrong.
Talking to demons is possible. Who is true and right? Jesus and Scripture and any spirit that disagrees is a demon.

And pretty well everything that most theists seem to accept at face value.
Like "love thine enemies" and "turn the other cheek"? those sorts of things?

Should we "theists" abandon those concepts for "survival of the fittest" and "fight or flight"?

All the evidence for evolution is far more than anyone could learn in a lifetime. This summary might be useful. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/comdesc/

"Turn the other cheek" and "love thine enemies" is moral values.

"Survival of the fittest" and "fight or flight" is descriptions of behaviour without moral consideration.

Behavior without moral consideration.

Like ... say ... Klebold & Harris?

Which one wore the shirt that said NATURAL SELECTION?

Why are you asking me this?

Didn't you say, "Behavior without moral consideration"?

Just wondering if your scripture puts the age of the universe at around 5000 years, and if so whats the deal with fossils, carbon dating and light from stars over 5000 years away?

The Scriptures don't date the universe.

They only tell us how long it's been in existence.

Aren't those actually robust survival techniques?

The (often misplaced and pathetically submissive) concept of 'love thy enemies' and 'turn the other cheek' are human concepts that are not unique to Christianity, so please don't make the naive assumption that they were somehow 'invented' by the mythologised Jesus character, or that the Bible is somehow the originator of a sentiment that we (humans) can all from time to time- quite naturally and independent of religious beliefs or none, and depending on circumstances- respond to. Your use of the phrase 'survival of the fittest' betrays your unabashed ignorance of its origins or meaning. The phrase implies 'fit for purpose' in biological and evolutionary terms. It doesn't mean or even remotely imply that 'strong people' should go out and kill 'weak people'. Please read Darwin's monumental scientific work before opening up your Bible!!
I'll ask you a second time:

Should we theists abandon "love thy enemies" and "turn the other cheek" for "survival of the fittest" or "fight or flight"?

If not, why did you call them "hilariously funny and deadly dangerous"?

Let's assume they are.

Should we theists abandon "love thine enemy" and "turn the other cheek"?

In your opinion?

Should theists abandon "love thy enemies" and "turn the other cheek"? Well yes and no. It's a discretionary option available to any person, theist or not.
Not for long.

Your choice to not love has a time limit.
There are times when they may well be sensible options to avoid an escalating conflict. In other circumstances, it would be absolutely ridiculous and probably deadly!

God's ways are not either generally.
Do you think your religion has some special powers and a claim to the moral high ground because it happens to make reference to a couple of common garden options that may be prevailed upon by anyone in a conflict?
Options have to do with the heart. When the heart is bad the options are bad.
'Survival of the fittest' and 'fight or flight' are descriptors of processes that occur in nature, and are not for you or anybody else to 'abandon.'
Yes, God can override animal behavior.

Good ... it can stay over my head then.

What you fail to understand is that you are mixing two very different concepts that in no way are related.

Yours, in extremly bad taste, columbine example is misapplied and brings nothing to the discussion more than trolling and strife.
