This is something I'm finding quite difficult at the moment, where everyone is getting older and a bit more opinionated on topics like religion. It'll be something where in class someone will make a comment about "like all those Christians" or something like that, and others will laugh. I feel quite alone sometimes - in my year, I only know about three or so people who are Christian, there's only one I'm really close to, and one who I am kind of close to, but who swears sometimes and doesn't talk like a Christian sometimes.

Anyway, I was just wondering how it is for some of you? I don't know if this is a similar situation in America or other parts of the world... I suppose it depends where you are. Please discuss!

I completely identify with your issues and I fully sympathise with you. Actually it's even worse in my case...China is the largest atheist country in history, religion is seen as superstitious and dark. Most of my friends are not only atheists, they are openly anti-religious. They don't even make jokes about Christianity anymore...they just spread hateful comments about the faith.

I keep my faith completely private...I'd be bullied if I ''came out''. I have a few Christian friends but they probably call themselves that because they think its western or ''chique'' (sadly many Chinese Christians are like this).

The fact I'm Catholic, which is illegal in China, doesn't help. I went to a non-denominational service once, and many of the attendants poked fun at Catholicism...I felt so hurt. Not only am I alone in my faith, the remaining Christians in China won't even accept me.

I have never felt so alone...

I have 4 really great friends who are Christians. One, mind you, lives in Florida and I have never met her. We have talked over the phone and skyped though. She has helped me get through so much. I am glad God gave me her.

This may sound silly to other but one of my best friends, who comes before all my other friends(but not God lol) is my mom. She and I talk about religion and the Father all the time. Thats were I get most of my fill from.

My other two friends live here in Canada with me and have faith, but don't really talk much about God. We all go to different churches too.

You say how people will make fun of the Christian religion in front of you or say things that aren't really appropriate? I try not to let that get to me, it is very hard but I just drown them out the best I can because you're going to hear it all of your life and learning to deal with it sooner makes it easier.

I have more than 15 friends who is christian, Well 12 from the 15 believe in God & Jesus but they do allot of sins :/, There are 2 that I'm sure that they pray everyday, Go to the church weekly. And one more friend who is actually more than a friend :) My mother, She helped me in the hard times, and always she told me to pray, Well i really thank her for who i'm now. Maybe sometimes i do bad things, like insult or fight with people but I always pray to stop it. Well lately all christian people are going on the wrong side of the road... :/ Hope it will get better with the time.

I had allot of friends which was atheist/jewish, that tried to get me away from my faith,Belief.
But non could do it, I've fought with almost each one of them, Now my belief has got stronger,
I pray everyday, Thanks god for helping me getting back to Christianity and getting my belief stronger :)

Hmmm I've heard that Canada is quite a secular country. It's taken the same route of western Europe in affiliating itself with the ''post-Christian'' movement. I've heard from other Canadians on CF that the government forces schools to have ''Gay-Straight Alliance'' clubs. Also the pro-life movement is very weak, most Canadians dislike it...

My father is pretty much a cultural Christian...I don't know if he actually believes. He keeps on using God as a metaphor, keeps on going on about ''even if Jesus wasn't really divine, he was still a great man.'' Shows signs of some serious agnosticism. Meanwhile my mom is Protestant...we argue more about the faith than anything else lol.

Recently she told me that I shouldn't pray the Rosary because I'm worshiping Mary with it...I just sighed and prayed a Hail Mary for her ^_^.

Indeed, it's very demeaning when people hurt the faith...but the worst thing is when your fellow Christians turn against you. I've had such issues on this forum, I've had users tell me that my religion is false because I may believe in some things as Purgatory, reverence to Mary and the Sacraments.

I sometimes feel like there are users on this forum that treat Catholics like we are Mormons. Well I beg to differ, the Catholic Church has existed for nearly 2000 years, many of the earliest Christians were Catholic.

Not really, its not very secular. It has taken some turns but it's not secular. In my town I have at least 23 churches and many in the towns around.
I love Canada and its laws, maybe its just my town that's different.

Thats pretty cool that your dad is wondering.
I'm sorry your mom and you argue. That can be hard.

Pardon me, but she is wrong, you should be praying. You should be connecting with God.

I have never had a fellow Christian turn against me, I am sorry you have had to feel that pain.

Again, I am sorry you were treated that way. I actually know quite a bit of the Catholic faith, I identify as just Christian myself but yeah I know a lot. I actually went to a Catholic for 4 years.

Canada is of course a multicultural haven. My Chinese uncle receives no discrimination and lives in harmony among other ethnicities. I admire Canada for its pacifist and non-interventionist attitude towards global politics, hence the reason why it is ranked as one of the most peaceful countries in the world. I also believe that its health care plans are quite benefitical, to some extent (economics show that privatised health care can be more efficient and affordable at the same time).

Still, Canada has followed the path of western Europe in secularising. On the federal level, same-sex marriage and abortions are permitted. I cannot think of any Christian, let alone Catholic, who would support such sinful things. People who speak out against these things can be arrested for being ''homophobic'', ''reactionary'' etc.

The United States has not gone down that path because 80% of the population will not allow it. I only hope that the government of Canada can go back to its Christian roots. The Conservative Party needs to do more than just fiscal conservatism, they must save Canadian society from the clutches of the nihilism that has taken over western Europe (even Ireland now that abortions are fully legal there).

Yes, but according to Protestants I am ''worshiping'' Mary. I am apparently an idolator and should not take into account that Mary brought Christ into the world, thus granting our salvation. How dare Protestants degrade the image of our Lady...

Again, I am sorry you were treated that way. I actually know quite a bit of the Catholic faith, I identify as just Christian myself but yeah I know a lot. I actually went to a Catholic for 4 years.

Do take in mind that Catholics are Christians...prior to the Second Vatican Council, we actually believed that we were the only Christians. There's so much bias against the Church over the net, especially mainstream ''born again'' Christian websites. They say things such as the Church emerged from Paganism, that we liken Mary to Roman goddesses...

The fact of the matter is that if God looked upon the heart of a Catholic, He would only find love (despite all our ''idolatry''). I cannot accept the fact that some Protestants believe that people like Mother Theresa should go to hell. So much for not judging others...

Interesting that you know about the Catholic faith...if you ever feel compelled to look more into the Church that Jesus founded, please feel free to do so, I'm willing to provide guidance. Despite all the propaganda against the Church, truth will overcome.

I envy your position. I assume that most of the people you know are secular. They don't shun you for being a Christian, do they?

Let's swap, haha :D

Not directly, though sometimes the odd comment is made during class when they assume there's nobody religious in the room.
