• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Been 4 years now since I have smoked so I know I'm all done it for good.
This method may not appeal to all but to heavily addicted smokers it is worth a shot.
I used chewing tobacco to quit smoking. I used it for a whole year.
I didn't just chew and spit. I usually swallowed all the juices that came from the tobacco and only spit the tobacco after I was done with it. You have to use plain unflavored chew for this. At first a little chew was enough to fill the nic craving but then I needed more. The worse cravings I got the more chew I would use and swallowing all that nicotine ensured I had enough in my system to kil the craving. After 1 year on chew, I no longer had cravings to smoke but still had cravings to chew. I quit the chew and took up chewing trident gum. After 3 days I no longer had nicotine cravings but kept chewing trident gum for 1 whole year. It was easy to quit the chew because after a few days I could feel how damaged my espohagus was from it and had no desire to do any more of it.
Its kinda gross as amethod goes but it worked for me and was the only thing that did. I never went through withdrawals and it worked permanently. If youve tried everything else then its worth a shot.

Hi All,
I tried quitting smoking so many times. I would quit for at least 2 months and then something stressful would happen and I would light up again. I did that so many times. The doctor told me that I had done a lot of damage to my lungs so I had better quit or die from emphysema, but I still couldn't quit, until one day I got so disgusted with myself and started crying, through my arms in the air and begged God to take this because I couldn't do it. After that I wore the patch for one week. It has now been over three years since I quit...GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME...........THANK YOU JESUS, I CAN BREATHE AGAIN...I have developed asthma but with GOD and my medication I will be alright. You all can do this. If I can anyone can. I am also a recovering addict with 8 years clean & quitting smoking was harder than quitting drugs, but with JESUS CHRIST you can do anything...God bless you all and never give up....

I'm just like you (still trying). I really have more sympathy for Drug/Gambling etc addicts than before I tried to quit. (Did you gain weight?)

Yes, I did gain weight in trying to quit and that is why I was unnsuccessful in staying quit, but i didn't give up and as I learned in recovery when you try the same things you get the same results, so I tried something different....I went on a diet and quit smoking at the same time and with the LORD'S help I made it...God Bless you, YOU WILL MAKE IT.......JUST BELIEVE................

I was annointed and prayed over 3weeks ago yesterday! Praise God for not only delivering me from the smoking habit, but I have only had a very few, slight cravings! How awesome is that? Sure a lot cheaper than quit-smoking aids, too. Thank You Jesus,So Much!:prayer:

Dont know how anyone can just say "i know Im done for good". People say that all the time and start again. Im done today, I know that. Beyond today who knows. I dont intend to smoke again, I can tell you that much. I quit everyday for a long time, then got 6 months, then lost it, now i have a few months again and am feeling good today. Cold turkey with Christ is the way to go!

Good for you!! They say it is easier each time. In AA they say relapse is part of recovery. There has to be a FINAL time just like there was a first time, don't you think?

I agree, but it's kinda like learning to tie your shoes few get it right on the first try, but most of us eventually learn to do it w/o even thinking...
