Cool! Can we club together and send I'm Sorry up. I won't go with him though, not a big fan of heights.

That building would be twelve kilometers high! Maybe a little too close to the canopy for I'm Sorry's taste.

BTW
I don't like heights either. I cringe every time I see that scene in a film where Sylvester Stallone is up on a high very narrow ledge helping two other climbers set up a cable to a transport helicopter on another ledge with a chasm between them.

Can't understand how mountain climbers can remain so calm when death is just a slip away. I admire those who can tolerate that.

Anyone mention Kim Stanley Robinson's book Red Mars?

It features an elevator and rebels bringing it down.

Thanks for the reference. The only one I have ever read that included a space elevator was by Arthur C. Clark. I think it was in the 2010 Space Odyssey novel sequel. In his novel it is a dilapidated structure largely abandoned and so large that it defies believability.

I've not adopted it, I think it was from I'm sorry that I first heard about it...its a flat earther thing I think...

Firmament - Wikipedia
Once you adopt the view that the canopy is there preventing passage then you have to explain why they are telling us the opposite. It's like in chess-if you say A then you are expected to say B, otherwise the logic goes out the floodgates.

Arthur C. Clarke - "The Fountains of Paradise" describes the building of an elevator. (He takes the liberty of moving his beloved Sri Lanka closer to the equator for the Earthside end of the elevator.

Charles Sheffield - "The Web Between the Worlds" written about the same time as Fountains of Paradise.
