I've seen in the Gospel many different things Jesus said you must do in order to get into Heaben.

Ive seen him say you must drink his blood and eat his flesh

I've read that you must believe that he was the son of God

I've read that if you dont feed the poor, Jesus will say that what you did to the least of my brothers, that you did unto me, and then send you to hell.

I've heard him say to inherit the kingdom of God, you must give up all of your possessions and follow him.

Is it all of these? Are there more things you must do?

The whole point of expressing it in different ways isn't so we can produce a checklist of things to do, but to illustrate and bring about the transformation that is necessary to make us part of the kingdom of heaven.

I've seen in the Gospel many different things Jesus said you must do in order to get into Heaben.
The Bible tells us about a relationship with our Creator - that He loves His creation in man and that man fell into a state of sin and death in the begining. All mankind has inherited that sin and death through Adam, and only one man was ever born not inheriting that nature of sin and death. It was Jesus who was born of God's Spirit and the woman Mary. Because He did not inherit the nature of Adam, He was able to stay in communion with God at all times and obey Him in being the sacrifice for our sin and death. Jesus giving His life for ours is the good news, "gospel", of the Bible, giving mankind the opportunity to become "sons of God ", to be His family, again as those redeemed - bought back with His blood and suffering..

Ro 5:17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.

Ive seen him say you must drink his blood and eat his flesh
This is symbolic in meaning, as they were partaking of the sacrificial Passover Lamb which was part of the Old Testament law for covering of sins. The innocent shed blood of the lamb covered the sins of the people of Israael as long as the remembered what God had done for them in freeing them from the slavery of Egypt.Today, we a freed from the slavery that the sin nature and death is to mankind. The wine they drank was symbolic of His shed blood for theirs and our sins.

1 Corinthians 11:23 ¶ For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread
24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”
25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people––an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”
26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.

I've read that you must believe that he was the son of God

Colossians 2:9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.
10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

1John 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

1Timothy 2:5 For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity––the man Christ Jesus.

I've read that if you dont feed the poor, Jesus will say that what you did to the least of my brothers, that you did unto me, and then send you to hell.
No, it does not say that, but that we should help the poor with food clothing, shelter, etc, but it is not tied with salvation. The parable illustrates to us that we are to die to our selfish lives and be able to give. The old nature of the flesh that still dwells in our bodies fights against against the spirit that God gives us when we ask Him for His Son's forgiveness and His help through the "new birth", spiritually - being "born again" as a new person in Christ.
If God truly dwells within our hearts, we naturally follow that Spirit He gives us into doing good works for others even though the good works are not the way to being saved. Salvation is the free gift of God through Christ.

I JOHN 3:16-19 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us.

2Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

John 3:5 Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.
6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.
7 So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’

I've heard him say to inherit the kingdom of God, you must give up all of your possessions and follow him.
We must be ready to prove who or what is our true God, and we are told to be content with whatever we have - not that we cannot have material possessions and money. We are warned to not love money and the power that comes with it more than God. Did anyone have more than Solomon? No, but if we make money or anything esle come before our love and respect for God, then that is an idol to us and needs to be gotten rid of.

Philippians 4:11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.
12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Hebrews 13:5 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

Is it all of these? Are there more things you must do?
[/quote] We submit ourselves to God just as we are without an plea other than our great need to be saved from our own sinful natures. He is ready to save us if we really want Him in our lives in truth, but not just as something we possess. It is He that creates and gives us each day of life, and we should be thankful and willing to love Him back by showing obedience to His word. He has given us the word to help us, though, not to condemn us, but that we may grow and learn the fruit of His Spirit.

Matthew 12:30 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’
31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

Romans 8:1 ¶ So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life–giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”

Look at who Jesus was talking to each time He gave one of these divergent instructions. Most of the time, Jesus asked for belief, faith... and sometimes a public statement of faith, like baptism.

Notice that the thief on the cross beside Jesus had no time to do any of these things, but he was admitted to Paradise... he simply defended Jesus' claim.

I've heard him say to inherit the kingdom of God, you must give up all of your possessions and follow him.
This was a challenge Jesus gave to a man who was clinging too tightly to his. There are many other verses in the Bible where God speaks of increasing flocks and herds, and protecting our posessions from decay.
Ive seen him say you must drink his blood and eat his flesh
This is not literal. (-;

Jesus was speaking in the synagogue, where the manna had been celebrated for centuries. The manna was a symbol of how God helped them survive their earthly lives in the wilderness...providing them a daily bread-like substance. But it was very temporary, and spoiled quickly.

Jesus spoke of himself as life-giving in the permanent sense. His life was another provision from the heavenly Father to people, an offer to bring life and rescue.

It was also a description of oneness with believers...partaking in the same life. He used a similar parallel of a vine with branches... how we need to stay united with Him in order to have life.

We could collect the manna and be on our way, doing all the right things while forgetting the source of our life. Or we could commune so closely with God that we are one with Him... He is in us, and we are in Him.

Have the belief that is commanded in the New Testament which is that you will follow Jesus from here on out. Not the belief of the world which is just an intellectual accent with no action to it.

The priority for the believer is to concentrate on the moral teaching of Christ first. Then after learning those, then concentrate on the ceremonial teachings.

Dear thedream233, you had some very good and well-put replies, I enjoyed reading them, and I agree wholeheartedly. Jesus gave us 2 Commandments, which contain all 10, God gave us. 1) Love God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. 2) Love each other, as you love yourself. ( That also means, Never do, or say anything, you would not want to be done, or said to you, or your loved ones.) That includes hearts and hands that share. Then follow Jesus, He is a loving Teacher and a Friend to help and guide you. He will lead you to life abundant on Earth, and life eternal with God and with each other in Heaven. I say this humbly and with love, dream233, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ.

So, one gets to heaven by works? Emmy this is not christianity. There are appropriate forums to espouse this views if you wish, but this is not one of them.

I am not sure on what you based your response to Emmy. I don't read anything in her post that indicates that one gets to heaven thru works.

As I read her post, she simply states the content that is inherent in the 2 "commands" given by Christ. I don't see where the "good works" she is addressing have anything to do with one's salvation. But perhaps I am missing something.

I think this is a nice response. I also agree that there are some great responses to the OP. As long as one remembers that salvation depends entirely upon our belief in Christ as our Savior, we are saved. The "good works" that He wants us to do will be evaluated when we stand before Him.

Our good works will be tested to see if they are real, etc. but have only to do with REWARDS and nothing to do with salvation.

ditto.

Her point reminds us that it's not a list of objectives to meet, but adoration for God, gratefulness for what He does for us, and respect for life and growth within His kingdom.

It is not the works that save us, but which allow us to understand and participate in what He's trying to accomplish. Even non-spiritual people understand that helping others doesn't need to have an end goal.

How to get to heaven? First confess Christ as your Lord and Savior and repent of your sins. Then ask the Holy Spirit to come into your life. Next, pray, read Bible daily, get into fellowship with other christians that are serious about God. Its a lifelong committment and lifestyle. Also, you will slowly become more like Christ. The Holy Spirit is the power of God to help you live a christian life.

After you have done the above, you will want to give others the unconditional love of God because your actions will show this. The Holy Spirit will supernaturally develop this in you. This includes giving to the poor.

Jesus does say that actually, directly tied to salvation (separation of sheep from goats). Matt 25:36-46. I agree with all else you said of course.

Oh, to thedream233, it's also VERY important to note what Stinker said about believing in Jesus: many think it just means to believe in your head, same as we may say I believe the earth is round.

New Testament believing means believing in your heart and taking ACTION! So you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour as others have said, and you then follow Him and His ways, giving your whole life over to Him. If you don't quite understand this, please ask.

The NT says that the demons already believe (just 'head' belief) but are going to hell. It has to be serious belief to become a real 'fair dinkum' Christian (as we say here in Aussie-land).

I pray you are able to truly BELIEVE in Him and follow Him!

Although it is used more than any other verse in the Bible, John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son, that whoever believes in Him won't die but will live forever." But does believing in Jesus stop at us saying, "I believe in Jesus"? Does that get us into Heaven? No.

Jesus said those who follow Him are His friends, and they will inherit the kingdom of Heaven. In John 14:11, Jesus says that whoever loves Him and obeys His commands, those are the people with whom He and His Father will come and make their home with. Jesus says that whoever follows Him will have eternal life in Heaven.

Hey
I do want to say it is by Jesus but do you know why?
I'll try to be simple so you can see why he is the way to Heaven.

Man kind was infected when Adam sinned and did what God told him not to do.

When he was Judged by God for doing it, Death became a part of him in his blood, because the life of our flesh is in the blood. So from then on as each baby was born by the mans seed each was infected with it, and this is why we have death in this world all because of Adams and Eves choices.

God had a way around all this, God placed Jesus inside a Virgins womb, he bypassed the sin seed of the earthly father, making the blood that flowed in the Vains of Jesus pure and sinless.

His life was wraping up all the requirements God had placed as Standards, The Ten Commandments, the cerimonies, attitudes, behaviors, his life was to obey all these and to obey God His Father perfectly because there would never be a human who could ever do enough things to be good, the infection was in All mankinds blood.

Today it is still in our blood as you can see people are still dying so it's still in there and if you are going to die, it is in you . Jesus is Gods way to heaven.

If you ask him to save you, get a bible, and Talk with God just as much as you do people, that is called a relationship with him.

That is all God requires, you to have a relationship by what his Son Jesus Did.

Thats why it is Jesus only.

Jesus said that by the tradtions of man they make the word of God of no effect, it's not about what you do, it's your relationship with Jesus and God, not churches, not fellowships not groups, it's you and him.

Get you a Bible and ask God to Teach you, read it do what it says, this is your start. The more you talk with God the more guidance he will give you, when you need it. Rely on a mans advice before Gods and you'll get a big big mess in your life.

Relationship is what God Requires, thats all because Jesus did the rest for all of us.That is how we are going to Heaven, Jesus Jesus Jesus.

Hey

That quote from scripture has to do with the Judgement of the nations, but that is when the christian who are about to disapperar in the catching away, return with Jesus Christ, 7yrs after the believers have left the earth.

That has nothing to do with your salvation my friends during this time period, we are in Gods time period called the Age of Grace, The Church age and called some others, From the Day Jesus raised from the dead till the saved people leave this earth it is all choice.

Do you belive in What Jesus has done to Save you and will you trust in it to saved you, if you do then ask Jesus to save you also, make you a child of God.

Time is about out, what will you choose

I would have to respectfully disagree with you about Matt 25:36-46. 'Nations' in Strong can mean people, mankind, i.e., all peoples of all nations of the earth will be gathered before Him at judgment. And the wording of the whole passage seems to clearly be speaking of people (the cursed) going into everlasting fire v.41 - hardly nations. And again people (the righteous) to life eternal v. 46, hardly nations. And I see no mention of the (so-called) rapture in the passage.

I checked Matthew Henry and his view is what I've said above. But I won't say more on this because I'm not into disagreement but will happily agree to disagree. The important thing is for people to accept Jesus as Saviour from sin and Lord over their life as you said.

Blessings!

How exactly do you get into Heaven?

If you try to take everything in the bible literally as possible, you'll never be able to come to a conclusion.

Trust too much in works, and your faith is misplaced and you go to hell. Trust in grace and you're not "working out your own salvation in fear and trembling" and will probably go to hell.

For the sake of sanity, it's best for a Christian to take the "saved by grace" verses literally and the "saved by works" verses figuratively. It's probably the way to stay religious for a lifetime.

So, one gets to heaven by works?

No, one is already in heaven by being the sort of person who does good things.

Your understanding of the concept of "works" is deeply flawed. The thing Paul was attacking was the notion that you could obtain Hevaen as a reward by earning it, which is indeed nonsense. What Emmy is teaching is not that, and is just fine.
