When the Lord revealed himself to me, my conversion was simular to that of Zacchaeus from Luke 19:1-10

6 Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. But the crowds were displeased. "He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner," they grumbled.

Meanwhile Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, "I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have overcharged people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!"

Jesus responded, "Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a son of Abraham. And I, the Son of Man, have come to seek and save those like him who are lost."

See Zaccheaus was a tax collector, and apparently quite notorious for it. So when Salvation entered his home, the things he said he would do reflected making things right. Helping the poor, and paying people back for cheating them.

When the Lord came to my house, he revealed my sin to me. And like Zaccheaus, I immediately repented of my sin. Anotherwords, as spoken in other places, I went forth and sinned no more. I now wanted the path of righteousness, and not the path of death I was on.

Repentance is turning from your former ways, to do what is right in the eyes of God.

So it is more than mere words, I personally like Isaiah 58 for this topic and also Isaiah 39:13

May God guide you on the path to righteousness.

Depending on your denomination, maybe nothing at all. As a Catholic, I confess my sins to God through a priest, as described in the Catechism, based on the practice prescribed in the letter of James.

There are some Christian denominations which preach that once you have accepted Jesus as your savior, you have no need to ask forgiveness again. Again, as a Catholic, I believe that forgiveness is freely given, but only if we do ask for it and are actually sorry for the transgression against God. What it comes down to is this: God knows if we are truly sorrowful for our sinful nature or if we are living sinful lives in the expectation that our "belief" in Jesus covers all our actions.

But as the excerpt from Luke shows, Zaccheaus did more than just repent. He not only promises to do good (giving half of his possessions to the less fortunate) but he also promises to make up for his sins already committed (in refunding the money unjustly taken from others). When you ask God for forgiveness of your sins, do you ignore the responsibility of demonstrating the love of God to those whom you have sinned against by making amends for your actions?

When you break a rule, your parents had for you how do you make it right? You go to them and tell them you're sorry for it and don't do it again.

Repentance is just telling God (your Heavenly father) you're sorry for what happen and then not repeating it in the future. God already knows what we do but we need to confess it and not repeat it.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

When a person goes back through life and truly repents of all their sins, often in tears, they lay them at the FEET of JESUS and ask that they be WASHED AWAY knowing the TRUE LOVE and GRACE of our LORD JESUS CHRIST!!!

Then to seal that request and show GOOD FAITH you commit your WHOLE LIFE to GOD and GOD'S WILL.

Then from that moment on you seek GOD in your every decision.

THIS IS GUARATEED TO WORK!!! SO REMEMBER:

X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O
( click on the x and drag to the O ) ( then see who is with you ) steven

It would be impossible for me to go back and make things right for everything I had ever done. My sins are too great. But if I understand right, that is what Jesus went to the cross for.

God Bless

You're right we can't/don't always remember each sin we have committed. But when we know we have sinned, we should make it right and confessed to God & to any other person(s) who we sinned against and make it right. :)
We should live everyday purposely. We should study God's word and know what he expects from us, so when we do sin we will better know and can make it right. We can also pray & ask for forgiveness for our sins that we don't remember and ask the Holy Spirit to convict us when we do sin. :)

Jesus went to the cross so you might have forgiveness of your sins. He didn't fix the temporal problems caused by your sin, but rather the eternal one (spiritual death). No, on the contrary, he left that up to us!
Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24)
Otherwise, what's stopping us from living in a manner truly detrimental to our neighbors, and excusing our actions as being covered by the grace of God through belief in Jesus Christ? How terrible would life be if we could thrive upon injustice in the flesh at the same time we expect justice in spirit!

"Go and do likewise", Jesus said (Luke 10:37b). Jesus demands action of us!

If you want to repent it means you are Truly sorry and are willing to change to the right way by following Gods path for your life choosing freedom

I am from a protestant point of veiw. I believe if we are aware of sin we can in private on our kness and ask God to forgive and to help. I also believe it will take help from strong christians to keep us accountable. If a third party is involed and if the Holy Spirit leads us to be truthful.

Hope this helps
Love

That is a good question and it deserves a Scriptural Answer!

(Pro 28:13) He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

(1John 1:5-to-10) This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
(1Jo 1:6) If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
(1Jo 1:7) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
(1Jo 1:8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
(1Jo 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(1Jo 1:10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

(Luke 19:5-to-9) And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
(Luk 19:6) And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
(Luk 19:7) And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
(Luk 19:8) And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
(Luk 19:9) And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

(1Timothy 1:19) Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

The Clear Conscience is the KEY! YOUR FIRST sin is Against GOD, and your Second one is Against SOMEONE!

Ask and Recieve FORGIVNESS from God according to 1John 1:5-to-10 & Proverbs 28:13. That is the Primary Mandate from the WORD OF GOD!

Second, IS YOUR OFFENSE towards Someone! Either a Word or Action, THAT CAUSED YOU TO SIN!

MAKING RESTITUTION is not taught in the Church today, and yet it is A PRINCIPLE that Satan will use AGAINST YOU, if you Do NOT Make RESTITUTION, if at all Possible.

Simply Obey James 1:22 and Luke 6:46!

Thanks, Roger459

As it has been mentioned already, repetence is not just asking for forgiveness, it must come from a truely sorry heart. If we are truely sorry for what we have done all we must do to recieve forgiveness is to ask God for it.

But as long as asking forgiveness is all we do, we will be doomed to keep comiting the sin.

A friend gave me a great analogy for this. He is a pilot.

If you are flying away from the air port and decide to go back, it will not work to simply turn around. If you do this you end up makeing a great big U with one end of the u being the airport and the other end being where you end up. In other words you miss the airport.

Instead you must turn around and then adjust your bearing to intercept with the airport, making a big P, the bottom of which is the airport and where you end up at.

The point is this. It is not enough to simply turn away from the sin and repent, but you must turn to what it is you should be doing.

For Zacchaeus this was giveing back the money to those he cheated. For you, you must seek out God's will and find out what it is God is calling you to do in these situations.

Definintely. Too often we try to live by "don't"s rather than "do"s. Take the rich man who asked Jesus what he must do "to inherit eternal life", in Mark 10:17-22. Jesus listed some commandments, most of which are negatives (don't lie, don't steal, don't kill). The only one which isn't a negative was "honor your father and mother" (which we might interpret to mean "don't dishonor your father and mother"). So Jesus then tells the man to sell his possessions and give to the poor. The man was crushed! He was hoping to achieve salvation by avoiding evil, but that's not enough -- he must cling to good.

repenting from your sins is well to turn away from them once you accept Christ as your savior. Because remember faith without actions is dead so if you used to lie and cheat in the past and you accepted Jesus as your saviour you can not lie and cheat anymore you must live a holy and perfect life like your father in heaven is holy and perfect

-God bless-

Its impossible to be perfect on this earth, only God is perfect. Everyone will sin again eventually. You can try not to sin but you're gonna screw up again someday.

Salvation involves three stages or steps, which are conviction, repentance (towards God) and conversion (salvation).

When King David’s affair with BathSheba was openly revealed by the Prophet Nathan (2 Sam. 12:17-13). David knowing that he has sinned against God is overwhelmed with sorrow for his transgression and cries to God for forgiveness and cleansing. Conviction is an act of inward remorse (regret for wrong doing) that one has done the wrong thing. One feels inner conviction that he/she has committed evil against God. The next step for the sinner to take is submission and plea for mercy and forgiveness from God thereby leading to a genuine repentance, which brings full conversion or salvation.

So, you have been convicted by the Holy Spirit after, hearing the message of the gospel, God has been gracious to you.

You have no option than to repent and make an about turn or guilt to face God who can only deliver you from the consequence. The only way out is to surrender and submit to God for forgiveness of sins and mercy. God will graciously pardon you because of the atonement for your sin through Christ’s propitiation.

It is God who converts a sinner who submits himself to Him for mercy and forgiveness. Genuine repentance brings true joy as the burden of sin is lifted off one’s shoulder (Lk. 15:9-10, 19:6-9). Ask God for divine enablement not to go back to those sins again.

I wish you the best.

God bless.
