Enh. I'm for the most in part being assertive.well at least we have something in common at last - agreed !!
Salvation is more than confession. In John 3:1-8 it tells there are two salvation issues pertaining to salvation; water and Spirit. As well, when Acts 2:38, 41 is looked on, it reads after one repents, is baptized in Jesus name, and receives the Holy Ghost they are added.Truth is this............
At 24 years old after sampling life's pleasures.....women, drugs, gambling, parties, travelling (to over 25 countries), I came to the conclusion that it was all EMPTY.
I had a guy ring me about Jesus, 3 times in 3 weeks.......I ignored his calls & never spoke to him, nor saw him. My mother acted as a foil for me. I didn't want to be bothered by a religious nut.
I was still doing drugs etc, I went to a house to buy some......a man came to the door.....he said I needed to read a tract...about JESUS..I wasn't interested.
I got the drugs from the man upstairs & left.........as i got tomy friends car...a voice said to me...go back to the house......I went back.....to cut a long story short......the man at the door was the man..who had been calling m for 3 weeks.
THATS THE TRUTH.
I went to Florida for my sisters wedding, I am from England.
I was in a nightclub......but I was bored...I remebered the guy at the door...the same guy who had rang me for 3 weeks...he had given me a bible. I went back to my hotel room after leaving the club.
I read the bible for 2 minutes, I said if God id real & his name is Jesus....now is the time to REVEAL YOURSELF...
He came into that room that very moment.
After this 5 minute visitation.....I was changed, clean....BORN AGAIN.
NO scripture.....no nothing.
THATS THE TRUTH.
I believe...what the bible says in John Chapter 20....the last verse.
If you want more...you can have it.....I sought the Lord for 3 years in my bedroom. And he came in POWER. Clouds of glory the works...its up to you...if you want more..seek his face.
No doctrine can make this happen...only a broken and contrite heart is what God responds to.
THAT IS TRUTH.
I believe we have to repent, I believe in Baptism in the name of Jesus, I believe that when you are baptsied in the Holy Spirit you should speak in tongues. ITS IN THE BIBLE...it is clear....
But it is a part of truth......it is not THE truth. Truth is becoming more like Jesus......& we must die to self to achieve this.
HAPPY
Brother, I have said what I have to say.Salvation is more than confession. In John 3:1-8 it tells there are two salvation issues pertaining to salvation; water and Spirit. I'm only but elaborating on scripture.Brother, I have said what I have to say.
I have shared my testimony & my heart......but you are like a stone.
No offence, but in time...you will SEE the kingdom for what it really is.....
I'm off to bed....God bless you.........regards
HAPPY.
Chapter four of David K. Bernard's book (The New Brith) covers this subject. Have you read it?but just to help ....I will add...John 3v1-8 water = natural birth...in my most humble opinion..........& being born of the Spirit.....is not speaking in tongues.
FAREWELL.
I'm back down for a drink.I'm only but elaborating on scripture.
Chapter four of David K. Bernard's book (The New Brith) covers this subject. Have you read it?
If you are genuine...you will go far..it takes time. But at this time I feel rotten, and rightly so. I was improper in many of my posts. I would like to apologize to any I have offended, and truly be penitent.
And now I go to study a fair amount before I return.
When we are immersed, we identify with the Death, Burial, and Ressurection of Christ. We come up out of teh water a new creation and in newness of life (spiritually). The washing away of sins goes back to the Jewish concept of mikveh...ritual cleansing. You are absolved of your sin when you are born again...at the New Birth, at conversion. You are already saved before you ever get baptized...at least you should be anyway, otherwise you are merely taking a bath and teh baptism means nothing. Baptism is SYMBOLIC...it is not a requirement for salvation. This brings an important question; when is the blood applied?
Act 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
KJV
After this post, I'll likely be done for a time. When we are immersed, we identify with the Death, Burial, and Ressurection of Christ. We come up out of teh water a new creation and in newness of life (spiritually). The washing away of sins goes back to the Jewish concept of mikveh...ritual cleansing. I was baptized as a child in the Catholic church. I remember the experience because something spiritual happened in that room that I have trouble putting into words. I believe the Holy Spirit was there--and I saw the Shekinah glory. God touched me at that moment. I believe He used that sprinkling as a dedication to Him.
I wasn't saved until I was 19. I was filled with the Holy Spirit at 21. I still went to Catholic mass, and did all that the church required. But the Holy Spirit was drawing me out.
I was starving for the Word of God. At age 25 I joined a Foursquare Church and began reading the Word through for the first time.
That's when the Holy Spirit began telling me that He wanted me to be baptized by immersion. I fought it. I told Him that I didn't need to be baptized, that I knew I was saved, and filled.
The Lord spoke to me. He told me that He didn't need to be baptized, either....
How can you argue with that?
I was baptized the next Sunday, by immersion.
Do you realize that Romans 6 associates baptism with being dead to sin? I am bringing this up because I know why God wanted me to be baptized by immersion. He wanted that old sin nature to be completely broken off of me!
There is something that happens when a person is baptized that breaks off the hold sin has had on them. In their identification with Christ's death, they are also dying. In being raised, they are being raised to newness of life.
For this reason, I am convinced that we need to get our converts baptized as soon as possible.
As far I can tell from those passages, when one is baptized they identify with Christ's burial. Excluding the death, and resurrection. So are you agreeing with me or not? It is unclear what your intent is in this post. It sounds like you are agreeing with what I said as far as the identification with Christ part...true or not?
I made an argument for it on page 3 and 4, if you wish to review it, and interject on any pointSubmersion in the name of the Trinity. I don't understand the in Jesus name baptism, how is Christ separate from the Father and the Spirit?
I just wanted to say I like this combination formula a lot. It covers all the bases. My former pastor (who has now recieved his reward) used to baptize people by saying I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost this I do in Jesus Name
He told us while teaching the yougn men's ss class after retiring from pastoring that he always did that so folks who wanted to split hairs would nt be able to
Baptism is a part of our salvation or it wouldn't be so prominent in the New Testament church.why argue over something that doesn't save us anyway...seems pointless..
