HOW Does One Keep the Sabbath?

Okay. And Did Jesus not say that He was the Lord of the sabbath?

Right! Because the Sabbath points back to Creation and God's Creative power (see John 1:1-3) that tells us the Jesus was the one who made us. The Sabbath is repeatedly mentioned in the OT as God's day--it was made for man but it never was "mans" (in the sense of only belonging to the Jews). Think of the Sabbath as a date (in the positive sense) with God; He has set aside one day a week to be with you--where do you want to be? Golfing, shopping, etc.?

The Sabbath is God's day of rest and worship (Lev. 23:3). Sunday is a man-made, pagan holiday (worshipping the sun and all that).

I was giving you the history of it there. The only day God set aside and made holy was the Sabbath. Man tried to say that they were smarter than God (set themselves up as God--violating the first commandment) and choose Sunday. Who do you want to be with?

I would say "education" is a better term. The fact that you are trying to worship God tells me that you are headed in the right direction. Like in the NT where the believers who had the baptism of John the Baptist but had never heard of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

This does seem quite silly to me. He lives in us. He doesn't need an appointment with us one day a week. He is always with us and we are always with Him. All our time is with Him. He is with me if I go golfing. He is with me if I go shopping. He is with me when I read the Bible. He is with me when I brush my teeth. He is with me when I'm working or resting.

It is true that God is ever with us. But, He only set one day aside, blessed it and hallowed it and has asked us to come and be with Him on that day. The question is would you rather be with God wholly and completely for awhile or not? When you are out on a date with someone doesn't it bother you when they aren't paying attention to it but on something else. "Oh yeah, honey, I'm with you while I'm golfing, working, scuba diving, riding my hog, "you're on my mind" all the time why should we have to spend "quality time" together? That's so boring and dull."

We should commune with Him everyday, not just one day a week. We have the Holy Spirit living in us. We can commune with Him all week. Any yes, if I'm riding my hog I can commune with God. And yes, spending time in the Bible and prayer is important, but should not be reserved for only one day a week. In fact, the Bible says to pray without ceasing.

The Bible says:

Yes, it also says the Sabbath was a sign between God and the Israelites here:

Exodus 31 " Say to the Israelites, Truly you shall keep My Sabbaths, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you [set you apart for Myself ]."

Who sanctifies you?

Exactly. In the old covenant God sanctified a day. In the new covenant God sanctifies us! How else can the Holy Spirit live in us?

I can be a tradition to set apart the Sabbath day. We should always base our beliefs on what the Bible teaches and not what man teaches.

Do you doubt that I love God because I don't accept the sign of the old covenant?

Where is the evidence that "most" Christians kept the Sabbath as late at the 5th century? You can look to extra Biblical evidence, but we needn't look farther than the Bible to know that the Sabbath was fulfilled in Christ.

Not sure what you are talking about. I don't oppose the Sabbath. It was a very beautiful shadow of the rest we have in Christ. However, that shadow given to the Jews is nothing compared to the reality of resting in Him everyday. I do keep the fulfilled Sabbath - I rest in Him everyday.

We are children OF ~THE DAY~ 1Thes 5:5 Christ who is the END OF "The law" is LORD of the Sabbath, they came to the tomb IN THE END of the Sabbath, that too is beautiful in light of "the shadows fleeing".

John 17:19... for ~their sakes~ I SANCTIFY MYSELF, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

The Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath we have come to Him and He gives us His rest. We enter our true rest in Christ.

It was a very beautiful shadow of the rest we have in Christ. However, that shadow given to the Jews is nothing compared to the reality of resting in Him everyday. I do keep the fulfilled Sabbath - I rest in Him everyday.

As with the previous post, I would add that there still remains a Sabbath that Joshua prophesied of to come. Not a ritual entrance every day. But like it says in Exodus that the Israelites did not rest from their work. So now we should earnestly desire to enter the rest which God has prepared.

there is only one way to make everyday alike. Since everyday cannot be as a sabbath day, you have to make the sabbath day like any other. Another words, you don't elevate the other days to the sabbath, you drag the sabbath down to equality with the other days. The biggest difference between sabbath and sunday worship is not the day of observance but the manner in which it is observed.
