Should we do righteous works in order to be righteous? It's impossible because we sin all the time even as believers.
As a follower of Jesus, you should not sin all the time.

Read the NT and see that they did not sin all the time.

Then, also, as you read the NT, see what they did if they did sin -
God gave instructions for that.

Double IMPUTATION:
1. He took our sins
2. We receive His Righteousness

2 Corinthians 5:21
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf,
so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Indeed He received, He took, indeed He siezed, the death of Adam from Adam by His Life upon earth and His Death upon the Cross... By this Death He released Adam from death, for He took on all our sins in that Death, and picked up Adam in the process, and picked up where Adam had failed and died... He restored Adam's life to dead Adam, suffering Adam's death and overcoming it as God...

And being both God and man, He refashioned human nature in himself, and in that refashioning created human nature anew in His God-Conjoining human body, so that when He took on our sins by suffering Death on the Cross, He then delivered the first blow to death which now has no power over human nature for those IN Christ...

This is why we are baptized INTO Christ...
Indeed we are baptized into His Death and Resurrection...
And that Baptism cleanses us from all sin...
Because we cannot become members of His Body in sins...
When we are baptized into Christ and His Death on the Cross,
We receive the Holy Spirit as conjoined to our personal hypostasis...
And that God-conjoined human Hypostasis IS the New Creation...
And we have thereby entered the Kingdom of Heaven...
The Promised Land...

But remember, it was only AFTER the Jews entered the Promised Land that they were then confronted by the Giants, and the war had to continue, and David had to defeat Goliath... And likewise so for us, once we are entered into the Kingdom which IS Christ, we will THEN face our biggest adversaries, as we "...run the race with patience set before us..."

And in this running, some are perfected in the Faith of Christ which He discipled to His Apostles, and most are not fully so perfected... Those who are perfected are called Saints, and God-bearers, whose presence heals, whose shadow passing over the sick can bring healing...

Death is the enemy Christ defeated by His Death on the Cross...
That is why Scripture tells us we are baptized into Christ's Death...
Forgiveness of sins and the cleansing us of all our previous sins in the Baptismal Waters is but the necessary means of entering us into Christ through the conjoining of our fundamental human nature (hypostasis) with the Seal of the Holy Spirit...

We receive the Call of the Gospel of Repentance unto Christ...
We repent unto Baptism into Christ BY the Body of Christ...
Then we repent unto being perfected by Christ in His Faith...
Whence we are Glorified by Christ...

All according to our willingness to live repentantly...
And according to the Providence of God for us...
And all according to our free will to choose between Good and evil in the death laden lives of the fruit of the tree of Good and evil of which Adam did eat and die...

Our God is a jealous God, and will not tolerate a mixture of Good and evil in His Creation...
The choice is fallen man's to make, according to his willingness and strength...
All of which is God-given and enhanced according to our choices...

Jas 2:22
You are seeing how the Faith synergized with his works,
and by works was the Faith [in him] made perfect?

It is Christ Who Calls..
It is Christ Who Baptizes...
It is Christ Who Justifies...
It is Christ Who Glorifies...

It is man who obeys or does not obey the command of the Gospel of Christ...

"Be ye repenting (and keep on repenting),
For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."

You're right. I meant to say Christians still sin a lot, but not all the time...
